Wonderheads

Wonderheads Multi-award winning physical theatre company specializing in whimsical, visual storytelling.

WONDERHEADS is a physical theatre company specializing in mask performance, puppetry, and visual storytelling. Our work is performed in full-face mask, a wordless, whimsical form which audiences have described as watching living animation and the CBC calls “Pure magic.” In stories that are at turns hilarious and profound, we WONDERHEADS make it our business to step beyond words and ignite the hearts and imaginations of every audience member.

We’ve been quiet on social media lately, but we’ve spent a lot of time away from our screens and on a big project! A little over a year ago, we Wonderheads made a big move. Literally. The company moved into its very own arts space at the Shire Arts Hub in Esquimalt, BC. Along with fellow resident artists Jessica Hickman and Brooke Maxwell, we’ve been hammering, scraping, sanding, wiring, caulking, painting, plumbing the depths of YouTube home improvement videos, and testing the limits of our middle-aged bodies - whipping the space into shape and making it our own. It includes a rehearsal studio, workshop, lounge, office, and more.

We are beyond excited to have this place to build, develop, dream, and make more wonder for years to come. Making the space available to other artistic folks for development and creation is a priority too - there will be much magic happening within these walls!

We have a few more gallons of paint to buy, some baseboard heaters, and a few pieces of furniture. If you'd like to support us in our final stretch of improvements, a great way to do that is to become a Wonderheads member. 10 bucks gets you a one-year membership and the warm knowledge that you've sprinkled some magic fairy dust on our new home and future creative endeavours. You can donate quickly and securely at www.wonderheads.com/membership/

Special shout out and deep thanks to our friends and family who have rolled up their sleeves and helped us over the past year. Check out the pics for some before and afters of a couple of the rooms!

Writers are often asked, “are you a gardener or an architect?” The gardener being an artist who plants a handful of seeds and waits to see what germinates while the architect starts from a set of plans and outlines.
