🎤 I just need to hop up on my pedestal for a moment because this is definitely one of my favourite pieces. I love making things with intention and meaning. I love sentiment. I love, love.

The love between best friends is something like no other. I grew up being INSEPARABLE from my girlfriends. I practically lived with them through school, their parents became my parents, and we drove them all crazy with demanding we be together for every waking second. Your bestie is someone you share your heart and soul with, someone you laugh and adventure with, and it’s SO hard and bittersweet when they have to move on to their next adventure solo and so far away. I believe you can have a soulmate in a best friend and distant is nothing for that type of friendship.

Thank you Jen for allowing me to make another project for you and for letting me make something so special. I wish Tylie all the love and success in this next chapter and I hope when you’re reunited you guys to make up for all the time in between 🤎

10-year-old Riley Pelkey and his cousin were playing in a backyard on the Tstartlip First Nation last Friday when a jerry can next to a campfire exploded. The cousin suffered minor injuries but Riley's condition was much worse.

In 1914 Henry Greens Grandfather was 17 years old he was paid $20 to cut down the last standing totem pole… it was burnt.
Our longhouse front screens, dance screens, canoes, bentwood boxes, everything… was taken and stolen from our people or even worse burnt by the missionaries.
Like the phoenix rising from the ashes stronger faster and bigger… I have chosen my business name knowing the journey I choose will be relentless in spreading our culture on everything and anything I touch in this lifetime.
I am Art From Ashes.

Stumbled across this article about an extinct species of dogs that were local to Vancouver Island until the 1900’s. Coast Salish people used to shear their fur with sharp rocks or knives made from muscle shells to mix with goat fur to make into blankets. The dogs were highly valued in Coast Salish Societies because the blankets were considered a basic form of wealth. Many scholars have compared the Salish wooly dog to the Japanese spitz and the American Eskimo breeds.
