Katarzyna Sadej (KATSAD) creates figurative, semi-realist and abstract acrylic paintings; oil pastel paintings; photography; and graphite sketches. She is an international performer in opera and classical music, and devotes her time equally to music, visual art, and environmental artivism. Inspired by ethereal, folklore, surreal and semi-realist art, she is drawn to bright, expressive colors, fine

details, texture, and defining emotions on a canvas, not only through the faces of her subjects, but also through the atmosphere and movement created in the background. She was inspired by comic and cartoon art growing up, so there are elements of that which reveal themselves, especially when she draws from imagination. When painting is involved, she is drawn to how much an artist can create a new world or vision purely through imagination and creativity. "Inspired by music, psychology and wildlife, my art is a representation of my imagination and life experiences.

Description:

Katarzyna Sadej, known in the visual art world as "KATSAD", is a visual artist and a professional mezzo-soprano, who has traveled the world performing in concert, opera and recital. She often links visual art with music and works in several mediums that will all be displayed at the Hidden Garden Gallery from June 17th to June 22nd. Her show, titled "Delving Into The Subconscious Mind And Nature", explores the psychological and archetypal, as well as a deep connection to wildlife and nature, through three mediums: acrylic paintings, oil pastel paintings and stained glass. A self-taught artist, Katarzyna has been creating art since childhood, her biggest artistic influence being her mother – renowned tapestry and mixed media artist Krystyna Sadej. Having done several family art exhibits in childhood, she only recently began exhibiting as a solo artist because of her busy music performance career. Recently she has had works exhibited in Ontario, New York, and now - British Columbia. Come and meet Katarzyna at the Hidden Garden Gallery from June 17th to June 22nd, from 10AM to 3PM. There will be a reception on Saturday, June 21st at 2PM, featuring an intimate musical performance by the artist herself, and a short artist talk describing some of Katarzyna’s art and art process. All are welcome!
