Dark Lullabies

Dark Lullabies Dark Lullabies reaches for comprehension of the Holocaust through interviews with survivors and their children in Montreal, Israel & German contemporaries.

Thirty years later, haunted by the questions raised by reading her father’s manuscript, Irene Lilienheim Angelico embarked on a quest to understand her parents’ experiences, in her feature documentary, Dark Lullabies. Winner of six international awards, and selected as one of the 50 greatest documentaries of all time at the international Salute to the Documentary. Director Irene Lilienheim Angelico was inspired to make this somber documentary because both her parents were prisoners in German concentration camps during World War II. Anxious to try to come to grips with an atrocity on this vast a scale, Angelico interviews the descendants of concentration camp prisoners in Israel with the hope of finding some answers as to why the inhuman, genocidal treatment of the Jews and Romanies (Gypsies) could have happened. In a democratic attempt at reaching the truth, she also interviews the grown sons and daughters of N***s to try to understand the effect of guilt and/or shame on their lives.
