Words from good friend and founder of 6AM Jia Wang

There are two types of aspiring artists in the electronic music scene:

First, there are those who are trying to make it as an artist for the wrong reasons (status, attention, money) and thus falling face flat into the ground as they maneuver around the industry using their shallow tactics and smoke n' mirror approach.

Then, you have the artists who are actually putting in the right work to grow their talent but are clueless about how to approach the scene such as talking to labels, promoters, and industry peers. Not to mention, NETWORKING, while daunting for many, is a very important skill that needs to be developed as an artist navigates through their own journey!

Both types of artists exist in our scene today and both need a sense of direction on how to navigate the trenches beyond the studio and DJ decks. On one hand, we need to make the artists whose intention is aimed at status, attention, and money look deeper into why they want to be a DJ/Producer and for what reason besides the shallow intention they have set forth. It's called self-awareness which many artists who focus only on the outer accolades of being a DJ/Producer lack because they're completely blinded by their own agenda and ego - most of them can't even give you a deeper reason WHY they want to choose this path besides "I love playing in front of a crowd!!" - no sh*t sherlock, which DJ wouldn't love to play in front of a crowd?

Then, on the other hand, we need to make artists who do have the right intentions and talent understand why it's important they need to develop a strong mindset from the get-go. We need to build these artists' confidence up so they can face the obstacles and turbulence all aspiring artists will need to overcome in the beginning to break through. No matter how talented they are, there will always be a period where they struggle and we need to do our best to let them know to keep pushing on because talent will always prevail over time if they put in the right approach and effort to their work.

In January 2019, we launched ArtistMap: http://artistmapby6am.com/

Which is 6AM's online institution that guides House & Techno artists to lead a fulfilling and sustainable career by developing their mindset and approach while teaching our deep industry knowledge on self-promotion and social media marketing; an essential for today's artist to get their music out there. Both are intangible skillsets that are much needed to help DJ/Producers navigate their artist journey beyond the studio and their DJ set up.

Today, I am excited to announce our partnership with Atroxx and his online institution, Faculty of Electronic Music (FOEM). ATROXX is no stranger to the Techno world and a highly regarded producer that's been heavily supported by Carl Cox, Charlotte De Witte, Richie Hawtin, Maceo Plex, Randomer, Pleasurekraft, Pan-Pot, and many more. He has been an avid educator for music producers under his own school (FOEM) and we have officially teamed up with ATROXX to provide our first of many Master Class bundle courses for electronic music producers - in the bundle you will get access to ArtistMap Phase-1 (Mindset + Approach) and Phase-2 (Self-Promotion & Social Media Marketing) along with an Intro MasterClass with Atroxx that goes over the foundational skills you need in the studio to help you finish tracks and take your production to the finish line. You can access the bundle courses here: https://artistmapby6am.teachable.com/p/artistmapb-masterclass-by-atroxx

For the first time ever, we are also opening up our one-on-one coaching/consulting session with artists currently in the industry. We are offering one-on-one Zoom/Google Hangout sessions answering all questions you may have related to the industry and all of the inner workings including label approach and landing gigs. We also answer any personal questions you have related to your own journey and with our combined 30+ years of experience in the scene, you bet we have the answers and perspective to bring value to your artist journey starting today.

If you know any DJ/Producers in the scene (I KNOW YOU DO!!) please fwd this post to them or links to our ArtistMap courses so they can start taking the right steps in leading a more fulfilled career and maybe (JUST MAYBE) they can stop complaining to you and to the internet world why everything about the industry sucks yet they're still in it...yes I know, it baffles me too ;)

You can get a glimpse of what we talk about each week via our YouTube series and the value we aim to provide by sharing what we know while we continue on our own electronic music journey!

If the agonizing wait of the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that momentum is rising. We are no longer sitting on hands in a state of inertia, we are no longer biting the tongue in anticipation. This is not a slow-jam summer. This is why we are excited to return to our audience with Montreal local DJ/producer, Dylan Cherry. In this very special extended set curated for our Hjem audience, Dylan Cherry reveals his acuity for authentic groove techno saturated with chronic loops and imaginative minimal accessions. Contained within an esoteric composition, Cherry’s sound suggests a paradox between high energy and embodied control through the use of hypnotic layers and emphatic, jazzy highs. Considering his moderately recent experience in production, Cherry’s knowledge demonstrates a history of techno cultivation, which can be felt in sustained synth, textured inflection, and narcotic-adjacent vocal selections. Anthropomorphizing tracks as intuitive, Cherry refers to ‘flow-state’ consciousness during a set, which intersects an audio experience of controlled timbre. This enigmatic transfer between artist and audience unifies Cherry’s perception of sound as a limitless phenomenon. Correspondingly, Cherry’s future interests favour an observant ear through experimentation methods in his production work. In this set, listeners will detect Dylan Cherry’s consistency in delicately formed oscillations, silky transitions, and seductive kick resonance. Prepare to be moved, and please enjoy Hjem 014 with Dylan Cherry.

Atroxx:
My production evolution over the past 11 years.

Blood sweat and tears put into every frequency, every sound every emotion. It's been a real grind but I have to say every moments been worth it. Art is the precious , therapeutic, emotional release from all ends of the spectrum, happy to sad. We must protect art, the freedom of art, the freedom of speech and everything in-between. The moment we start to create limitations to art it is no longer art.

Do it for the right reasons, let passion be your guide and never by all means, never give up.
