✨ A New Chapter Begins for Musica Orbium! ✨

We are delighted to welcome François Lukawecki as the new Artistic Director of Musica Orbium.

A Montréal-based conductor, award-winning composer, and educator, François is the Artistic Director of Les Voix de la Rivière, Co-Director of the McGill University Chorus, and Founder of the Canadian Experimental Choir. Currently pursuing a doctorate in choral conducting at McGill University, he has received numerous national and international composition awards, and his works are published by Cypress Music Canada.

François’s connection to Musica Orbium is especially meaningful. He first joined the ensemble as a chorister in 2002 under the direction of Patrick Wedd, and now returns with a passionate artistic vision, a meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to exploring both beloved choral masterpieces and rarely performed gems, alongside outstanding works by Canadian composers.

Nous sommes fiers d’annoncer que le Prix de la relève 2026 nous a été décerné lors du Gala du 50e anniversaire de l’Alliance chorale du Québec!

Cette reconnaissance nous touche profondément et nous encourage à persévérer dans notre mission: promouvoir les compositeur.rice.s canadien.ne.s, tout en ayant une gestion collaborative, grâce à l’expertise de chaque membre.

Nous tenons à remercier l’Alliance chorale du Québec pour son accueil et sa merveilleuse organisation, et Andréanne Moreau - Page professionnelle pour sa chaleureuse présentation de notre choeur.

We are delighted to announce that, following our call for choral compositions, we received 52 submissions from Canadian composers from across the country.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude for the interest and enthusiasm shown for this project. The richness and vitality of our PODIUM 2026 session are thus assured!

Our selection committee has begun reviewing the submissions, and the selected works will be announced on January 22nd.

We thank you very warmly and extend our best wishes for the year 2026!

Nous tenons à vous exprimer notre sincère reconnaissance pour l'intérêt et l'enthousiasme envers notre projet. La richesse et le dynamisme de notre session à PODIUM 2026 sont ainsi assurés !

The Canadian Experimental Choir is proud to invite the Choral conducting students of Université de Sherbrooke and McGill University to a free choral conducting workshop with Roseline Blain, entitled:

"Singing in French: the natural music of speech, defined by rhythm and poetry."

French is often said to be difficult to sing..

This workshop proposes an approach to interpreting French choral music by placing the expressiveness of the language—prosody, rhythm, accents, and flow—at the heart of the artistic work.

It is intended for conductors, wether francophone or not, who wish to better understand and apply the rules of interpreting French in choral music.

You may choose to attend as an observer, or you may join the Canadian Experimental Choir and sing in the demonstration choir.

This workshop is exclusively offered to all choral conducting students from McGill University and Université de Sherbrooke.

Date: January 25th 2026, at 2:30 p.m.
