🎵 EXPOSURE DOES NOT PAY THE RENT. 🚫💰

When international reggae and dancehall heavyweights come to Canada, ticket prices skyrocket, the bars are packed, and promoters rake in the profits.

But behind the scenes, there is a dirty open secret: local Canadian opening acts are routinely expected to perform for free.

Promoters call it an "opportunity." They call it "exposure." They claim it's "job creation" for the local scene.

Let’s call it what it really is: systemic exploitation.

Opening for a massive artist isn't free for the local musician. It costs money for studio time, rehearsal space, paying a backing band or DJ, wardrobe, and transit.

When an artist performs without a guaranteed fee, they are literally paying out of pocket to subsidize a promoter's event. You can’t pay your landlord in "exposure."

You can't buy groceries with a "vibe."If the Canadian music industry wants to celebrate the massive cultural impact of reggae and dancehall, it needs to start respecting the local creators holding up the foundation.

True job creation means stable, livable wages for everyone who hits the stage.Drop the ticket quotas.

End the handshake deals. Pay local talent. ✊🏿🇨🇦🔥

Kamala "Mi Dun Talk" Wright

Executive Biography

Kamala "Mi Dun Talk" Wright is a prominent Canadian-Jamaican radio broadcaster, media personality, talent agent, and human rights activist.

She is the founder and host of the influential "Mi Dun Talk" reggae and dancehall program on Montreal’s CJLO 1690 AM, as well as the CEO of World Lynkz Inc. and the Kamala Wright Agency.

For nearly two decades, Wright has served as a vital cultural bridge, pioneering Caribbean music platforms, fostering community development, and advocating for artist equity across Ontario and Quebec.

Early Life & Education

Born on April 29 in Trelawny, Jamaica, Wright embodies the driven, resilient, and deeply grounded traits of a true Ta**us.

She immigrated to Canada in 1993 at the age of 14, spending her foundational years in Toronto, Ontario. There, she adapted to Canadian life while maintaining a deep, lifelong connection to her Jamaican heritage.

During her youth in Toronto, she attended Vaughan Road Academy and L'Amoreaux Collegiate Institute.

Career Timeline & MilestonesThe Toronto Foundation & Cornwall

Reggae Movement (2009–2017)Industry Entry: Wright officially entered the Toronto Reggae and Dancehall industry in 2009.

Working behind the scenes, she built an extensive network of local selectors, sound systems, and musicians.

Pioneering in Cornwall: From 2012 to 2017, Wright single-handedly brought and anchored the reggae music movement in Cornwall, Ontario, establishing a vibrant cultural footprint in Eastern Ontario where the genre previously lacked a dedicated platform.

Launch of World Lynkz Inc.: Recognizing a gap in structured representations for underground Caribbean-Canadian talent, she established her management footprint to provide artists with marketing and administrative support.

The Montreal Chapter & Portfolio of Elite Talent (2017–Present)

Relocation to Montreal: In 2017, Wright relocated her family and entertainment operations permanently to Montreal, Quebec.CJLO 1690 AM Debut: In 2022, she officially brought her signature media moniker to the airwaves, launching the "Mi Dun Talk", on CJLO 1690 AM.

The weekly campus and community broadcast quickly became a staple platform for high-profile interviews, independent music discovery, and discussions on Caribbean culture.

Collaborations with A-Level Artists: Over her extensive tenure as a talent coordinator, media maven, and manager, Wright has collaborated with many a-level artists, major selectors, and international hitmakers across the global Reggae and Dancehall landscapes.

Her elite portfolio includes professional collaborations and industry work with prominent roots and dancehall figures such as Chuck Fenda, Suga Roy & Conrad Crystal, Ras Ajai, Lazah Current, and Mikey General, among many others.

Relaunch of Red Hot Revolution Fest: In 2025, Wright successfully relaunched the Red Hot Revolution Fest in Montreal.

Under her leadership, the movement expanded from an indoor charitable showcase at Saint Paul's Anglican Church into an official, registered Canadian non-profit music organization.

The Movement's Success: The festival achieved landmark growth, securing funding from the Government of Canada and FACTOR Canada.

By August 2026, it evolved into a massive, vibrant outdoor "Groundation Circle" at Parc Raymond-Préfontaine in Montreal's Hochelaga neighbourhood. Hosted by MC Christcella Nicholas, the stage successfully united dynamic acts like Saboo, KDot, Yahbuno, Real V.I, Captain C, Levi Conscious, and Semojrah Naki (also known as Bobo Naki).

The festival seamlessly incorporated African drumming, community awards, children's story times, and local culinary spotlights, gaining widespread acclaim for creating an inclusive space that amplifies Canadian and Caribbean voices while directly funding grassroots humanitarian causes.

The Kamala Wright Agency Roster: She formalizes her international talent reach under her powerhouse roster, which boasts legendary reggae voices known worldwide alongside elite global music creators, sound selectors, and emerging stars.

Personal Life Wright is the proud mother of two sons, both of whom are actively pursuing their own creative paths in the arts and music industries:

Taffari2wavy, a rising alternative fashion designer behind Inverttlyfe, who showcases custom fashion collections directly on the festival stages.

Yung Yezzie, a Toronto-born hip-hop artist currently based in Montreal and managed under the Kamala Wright Agency.

Activism & Core Values Parallel to her entertainment career, Wright operates as an outspoken human rights activist. She frequently uses her editorial platforms and social media presence to issue public statements regarding cultural representation, systemic equality, and accountability within the music industry.

Her media moniker, "Mi Dun Talk" (patois for "I have spoken" or "I am finished talking"), reflects her direct, uncompromising approach to truth-telling and community advocacy.

The Daily Commute is Broken How Are We Supposed to Survive This?

Gas prices are at record highs, making it impossible for many of us to afford getting to work. Public transit is completely packed, and the cost of filling up is literally eating up our wages.

We are being forced to choose between feeding our families and driving to a job that no longer covers our costs.

We need solutions now: Companies must allow permanent work-from-home for roles that can be done remotely to reduce demand.

Employers must offer fuel stipends or higher mileage reimbursement to offset these costs.

Public transport must be subsidized or increased immediately to handle the surge. If we all stay home because we can't afford to go in, the economy stops. It’s time for employers and governments to recognize that this is a crisis, not just an inconvenience. What are you doing to survive these prices? 👇

(As of May 2026)Fuel Shock: Recent conflicts (e.g., in the Middle East) have driven gas prices up significantly, with some areas seeing nearly $1.90+ per litre.

Return-to-Office Pressure: Despite the costs, many employers are demanding staff return to the office, intensifying the pressure on commuters.

The "Silent Firing" Concern: Some employees feel that return-to-office mandates, coupled with high costs, are a way to force resignations without paying severance.
