for the last years Penelope has sat on my desktop reminding me every day not only to remain focused and loyal to whatever, whomever, I so choose, but that her story matters as much as the famous men’s. I haven’t seen Nolan’s Greek poem yet, but I already know whose story I want to see most alongside the epic shots of waves. 🌊🌊🌊🌊

every mum knows their kid’s birthday is their birth day too and you have to take a moment alone to remember and celebrate somehow. for an artist it’s often the memory of when the focus shifted from 100% artistic creation to caring for one’s biological creation while trying to keep one’s inner creative spirit running. walking up a hill is akin to the challenge. sweat. determination. pain. society rarely if ever recognizes women’s labours, artist or other, we have to do it for ourselves.

(tank top not anti-art but Emilie Baltz work for Museum of S*x in NYC :)

Is the Grandmillennial aesthetic having a moment? The chintz sofa certainly makes for a whimsical focal piece in this sunny space. 🛋️

🎨 This painting by Helen McNicoll possibly shows British artist and friend Dorothea Sharp in the bright studio and exhibition space they shared in London. Soft beams of light slip between drawn curtains and reflect off windowsills in the peaceful room.

McNicoll painted several canvases in this studio. Two of them feature models wearing Victorian dresses, fashionable in the 1850s–even though these works were painted around 1913-1914. ☀️ What’s old is new again.
