Bloodcurdling/Froissement du Sang

Le Festival de la Bête Noire Festival: A Montreal Horror Theatre Festival grew out of a desire to merge my love of horror with my love of theatre after seeing 2 inspiring shows at the 2018 St Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival that were somewhat horror themed; Shylock’s Holmes’ Kafka’s Metamorphosis: The Musical and Sc****ly Clad Theatre’s: Girl in the Box. Both were amazing and made me wonder why there wasn’t more horror in theatre. For the next few weeks I fantasized about getting goosebumps in a crowded theatre, being among other audience members who might feel as crept out, as uncomfortable and as intrigued as me all while exploring the darkness, the ugly, and the horror that resides within all of us.

So, I found a super team and we set things in motion and partnered with the theatrical talents of performing artists who share our vision and passion for the vast theme of horror. Much like other avant-garde alternative theatre festivals, we aim to encourage anyone to apply; providing a platform through which emerging as well as established artists can express their love of the horror genre through performance art.

Horror can have a bad rep, but it can also be good for you; just as comedy can relieve stress and anxiety through laughter, horror can do the same through fear and adrenaline. Through horror theatre, we hope to help others create bonds, share experiences and escape the Winter and Valentine’s Day blues! Also, I am super stoked to see all the shows, which really is my selfish reason for making this happen!

I hope you have a spooktacular time!
