Roundtable: Are you a theatre artist in Québec who identifies with the word “atypique”?

Organizer/Organisatrice : Ash McAskill (University of Guelph)

Contact email/Coordonnées : Ash McAskill [[email protected]]

_____

My name is Ash McAskill and I will be facilitating a round table discussion on the atypique artist movement in Québec. The word atypique has emerged in Québec as a way to describe the aesthetic richness of unconventional artists, such as those who are disabled. Artists that connect to the atypique identity are changing ways of making and understanding theatre in Canada. This roundtable will bring together artists that are atypique and artistic allies to discuss why or why not this word is important to our practice, and its role in defining Québecois theatre aesthetics. People participating in the roundtable will asked to share their experience with the atypique artist movement and respond to how this will affect the future of theatre-making in Canada.

To apply, please send a bio and a brief explanation as to why you would like to participate in this round table. This could be in the form a 1-minute video of you talking or a 200-word explanation. Please know your application be written informally or any way meaningful and most convenient to you. Please submit to Ash McAskill at [email protected] by 1 February 2020.

EXTENDED: 10 FEBRUARY 2020
