Collègues, amis et Étudiants
C’est avec un pincement que nous devons vous annoncer que moi et Marie venons de compléter notre dernier tout du Gala de théâtre étudiant. En effet, The Factory Line ne fera pas partie du gala l’an prochain. Nos carrières, il semble, sont en train de nous rattraper et nous avons déjà deux projets d’envergure prévus pour l’an prochain. Ces deux projets entreront en conflit avec la période de production du gala et nous avons convenu qu’il était temps de passer le flambeau.
Quand j’ai mis sur pieds ce projet il y a quatre ans, j’étais simplement un étudiant de Concordia qui cherchait à écrire de quoi d’intéressant sur son application à la maitrise. Mais les années ont passé et je suis content de voir que des étudiants qui ont participé au Gala dans le passé ont déjà commencé à mettre sur pieds leurs propres spectacles en dehors du milieu éducationnel. J’ai été d’abord impressionné par votre passion et par la qualité de votre talent, je suis toujours impressionné quand vous transposez cette énergie dans le « vrai » monde.
En ce qui a trait à marie, je suis désormais une technicienne en cinéma, travaillant sur des projets de plus en plus gros et diversifies. Je crois sincèrement que le gala m’a aidé à développer tout mon côté « organisation » ainsi que mes idées conceptuelles. Bien que j’ai pu être difficile avec certains d’entre vous, question de m’assurer que le spectacle soit de qualité, j’ai été abasourdi par votre travail et votre motivation. Merci du fond de mon cœur.
Nous sommes également d’avoir pu trouver une place de plus où les communautés francophones et anglophones ont pu apprendre à se connaitre un peu mieux, s’influençant mutuellement pour le bénéfice du théâtre. Cette année, nous avons eu notre première pièce bilingue (d’une jeune dame d’Edmonton en plus) et j’attends avec impatience le jour ou un de vous osera essayer de quoi à la David Fennario.
Comme des remerciements sont de mise, j’aimerais remercier Jeremy Hechtman pour avoir donnée sa chance au gala il y à quatre ans. Je voudrais remercier Amy Blackmore pour avoir gardé intérêt dans l’événement lors de son ascension au poste de directrice du Théâtre Mainline. Malheureusement, il y a trop de gens qui ont contribués dans le passé pour que je puisse tous vous nommer, mais l’équipe de cette année mérite une accolade bien sentie, alors envoyez une pensée pour Cristina, Laura et les volontaires et employés de Mainline.
Pour ce qui est de tout le reste, je n’ai pas de doute, nous nous reverrons un de ces quatre.

Friends, colleagues and students,
It is with a bit of a pinch that we have to tell you that Mary and I have just completed out last tour of the Gala for Student Drama. Indeed, The Factory Line Collective will not be part of next year’s gala. Our careers, it seems, are catching up to us and we already have two significant projects lined up for next year. Both of these projects will fall right into the production schedule for the gala and therefore, we must hand over the torch.
When I started this project four years ago, I was simply a Concordia student looking for something good to write down on my master’s application. But the years have passed and I am glad to see that a lot of the students who took part in the Gala have gone on to produce their own shows outside of College or University. I was first impressed by your passion and the quality of your work, I am still impressed to see that you are carrying that spirit into the “real” world.
As for Mary: I have become a film technician with growing projects at hand and sincerly believes that the Gala has helped me develop my professional skills as organiser and concept artist. I might have been hard on some of you, trying to get you to push harder, all in the name of making the show what it is in the end, but I am sincerely always baffled by the amount of motivation et skills you all have, Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
We are glad to have found one more place where “Franco” and “Anglo” communities could get to know each other a little better, to interact and influence each other. This year, we have had our first bilingual play (from an Edmontonian, no less) and I am looking forward to the day one of you pulls a “David Fennario.” I mean that.
As thanks are due, we would like to thank Jeremy Hechtman for giving this a shot four years ago. We would like to thank Amy Blackmore for sticking with the Gala when she became director at MainLine. Unfortunately, there are too many of you from past years to thank here but we do believe this year’s team deserves a proverbial hug so send your love to Cristina, Laura and MainLine staff and volunteers.
As for the rest of you, I’m sure we will run into each other again someday.
