Sound install and gallery audio mastering for & exposition ‘The Embrace of the Saw’ 🪚🔥

An immersive cinematic exposition exploring “the concept of rupture: how moments of fracture (within ourselves, our relationships or with the systems or environments we are part of) can become generative paths towards transformation and renewal”

We worked with the incredible (Sound design and production) & (Technical direction) to help develop and install 6-channel sound spatialization.

As an audio consultant, we gently adjusted Emna’s beautiful track to create a gallery master, finalizing the audio to translate within the room.

Shots from the sound mixing workshop last weekend HQ in St. Henri

This was a lovely and inspiring group of sound creators and we feel fortunate we get to do this work 💖

Thank you also to friends, collaborators and extended community who helped to share out these sessions. This is all possible thanks to you🙏🙏🙏

This time we had lots of interest in Ableton, one of the most versatile and creative DAWs. And also how to hear the subtleties of audio compression.

We’ll keep exploring and deepening the workshop format.

We/Fili have been sketching music compositions on cello this spring and wanted to share our basic set up - a pair of hypercard mics into a laptop.

We/F always like to keep away from the desk and screens when creating with sound, but having the laptop near is also helpful, to process and layer sounds when needed.

The hypercards are helpful because they reject a lot of the ambient sound in the room, also any noise from laptop if you place this in the ‘nulls’ of the polar pattern.

While not a pristine studio situation, this is practical for sketching layers with acoustic instruments. The sound pickup is clean enough to be used later - for those favourite takes that somehow we can’t recreate!

Here we were exploring some sound ideas for the Climate Imaginaries Podcast with Laura Cull Ó Maoilearca and Rajni Shah, released later this months. Supporting the project as an editor and sound designer, We feel grateful to be close to these beautiful conversations in these days.
