Rebellion, movement, fantasy, and mechanical chaos converge in the work of Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely at Somerset.

Bringing together monumental sculptures, kinetic machines, rare works on paper, and collaborative pieces spanning more than three decades, the exhibition highlights the artists’ enduring creative partnership and their shared desire to challenge convention through art.

From Saint Phalle’s vibrant and commanding Nanas to Tinguely’s poetic anti-machines constructed from salvaged materials, the exhibition reveals two visionary artists whose work continues to resonate across generations.

Pride is joy, resistance, visibility, and excess all at once.

Born from protest, it has grown into a global visual language shaped by artists who redefined how identity can be seen, held, and celebrated. Across abstraction, portraiture, photography, and constructed worlds, these practices expand what representation can look like and who gets to be seen within it.

Not one story but many. Not fixed but constantly unfolding.

🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🌈

Founded in 1997, the CONTACT Photography Festival has grown into one of the largest lens-based art festivals in the world. Held annually in May, it transforms Toronto into a city-wide exhibition space, where galleries, museums, and public sites collectively showcase contemporary photography and image-based work.

Now in its final days, this year’s edition brings together a range of practices across the city.

Featured presentations include Delali Cofie (United Contemporary), Shannon Bool (Daniel Faria Gallery), Robert Mapplethorpe (Olga Korper Gallery), and Arnaud Maggs (Stephen Bulger Gallery).

From archival inquiry to experimental image-making and iconic portraiture, these works reflect the breadth of photographic practice today.

The festival runs until May 31st, don’t miss your chance to see it before it closes!

Known for transforming everyday objects into bold, graphic forms, Michael Craig-Martin is a key figure in contemporary conceptual art. His practice reduces the familiar to its essential outline, using vivid colour and precise line to shift perception and turn ordinary things into immediate visual symbols. Seen here within the context of his own Venetian residence, the works reflect the consistency of a visual language that has defined his practice for decades. His influence can be seen across generations of British contemporary art, notably in artists such as Julian Opie and many of the Young British Artists he taught at Goldsmiths.

Across the canals, something shifts again.

The .art.biennale opened on May 9 and runs until November 22, 2026, returning to the Giardini, the Arsenale, and sites across Venice. Since 1895, it has remained one of the most enduring gatherings in contemporary art.

Venice unfolds as a site of attention where performance, material, and memory move in close proximity. This year’s edition leans into presence in its many forms, the body as archive, material as witness, gesture as language. Across pavilions and spaces, these works ask how we hold history and how it holds us back.

Between endurance, transformation, and quiet insistence, these practices do not sit still for long. They unfold in real time, then linger in their aftermath.

In the work of Robert Cottingham, the street becomes language. Storefronts and signage are stripped to form, scale, and rhythm, shifting the familiar into something almost abstract.

Photorealism here isn’t about replication, but attention, the way light hits a façade, the weight of typography, the atmosphere held in a passing view.

At Galerie Hugues Charbonneau, Moridja Kitenge Banza transforms territory into memory.

In The Memory of Seasons, landscapes unfold like living maps shaped by history, movement, extraction, and resilience. Between abstraction and cartography, the works invite us to reconsider how land holds memory long after borders are drawn.

On view until May 30th!

The pomegranate, with its hundreds of seeds, has long symbolized abundance, renewal, and the wish for sweetness in the year ahead. As Rosh Hashana begins, may this season bring peace and possibility to all who celebrate. ✨🍯

Flora Yukhnovich’s painterly take on the fruit captures that spirit of vitality. Her lush brushwork reimagines Rococo for today, transforming the pomegranate into something both timeless and alive. Make sure to catch her immersive commission at the newly reopened Frick Collection following its years-long renovation.
