Artist Spotlight: PHEX 🇦🇺

Hailing from Australia, PHEX has spent more than a decade carving out his own place in underground dubstep. He first explored the world of music production in early 2011 after being inspired by the sound and culture of underground UK Dubstep, taking inspiration from collectives such as ‘Monsters’ and ‘HENCH’, which were home to heavyweight artists such as AD, Akirah, Jakes, LOST, Shiverz, Subfiltronik and Vylex.

PHEX was among the earliest Australian producers to embrace the underground sound of UK Dubstep, and as his sound developed, his idols also became peers. His favourite DJ, Shiverz, would soon begin playing his tracks in mixes, carrying his music to listeners around the world. A connection with Subfiltronik in 2014 marked a defining chapter, leading to official remixes of underground classics including « Blisimo », « Blockz », « Passout » and more. Those remixes remain unreleased by choice: highly sought-after dubplates reserved for special occasions rather than placed into general circulation, a commitment to exclusivity reflecting his enduring passion for dubplate culture.

Despite his international reach, PHEX remains an underground artist by intention. His productions regularly feature in DJ sets around the world, with tracks played at events and festivals including EDC Las Vegas, Northern Invasion, Rampage, Space Invaderz and Ultra Music Festival. From the weight of his heavier work to the depth of his atmospheric productions, his identity rests in the music itself, with some of his most prized material still held back for the moments that matter.
