With the idea of I did some research this morning to find ideas of police reform from the perspectives of POC. I found this essay, written by Monica c. Bell, a Yale law professor and WOC that provides a thorough explanation for the actions of police and policing policies that have caused reasonable distrust from communities of color, in addition to suggestions of how we may improve these systems. Although it is quite long and dense, I recommend reading it, either partially or entirely, to all my well-meaning white friends, and for all white people who consider themselves allies (myself included) to continue to do the work of educating themselves on the systems that perpetuate white supremacy, and to share and elevate the voices of people of color.
