Some pictures from The Backyard Theatre’s first production, The Food/Famine Tour (September 3–5), directed by Anne-Marie Saint-Louis (). This multidisciplinary play is rooted in the political and personal dimensions of food, particularly bread.

Join us tonight for the final night of our second production, Echoes in the Streets, directed by Abi Sanie ().

This multidisciplinary theatre project explores the history of student protest in Montréal over the past fifty years, tracing how young people have shaped the city through resistance, creativity, and collective action.

Bridging the Divide: The final Long Table dialogue in Teesri's series on Islamophobia, antisemitism, and racialized hate

Join Teesri Duniya for the last of our Long Table Dialogue series on Islamophobia, antisemitism, and racialized hate. Building on the previous two dialogues - Across the Divide and The Shifting Divide - this final installment of the series will directly face the interplay between personal and political experiences and expressions of hatred. We will also discuss the role and utility of dialogue in moments of tense political pressure. Can dialogue really "bridge the divide" when political forces are stoking hatred and trying to push people apart?

The Long Table is a participatory format that invites people to gather around a shared table, where speaking and listening are treated as equal acts. Participants may step forward to join the conversation or remain in quiet observation, allowing the discussion to unfold with care and intention.

At a time of deep polarization, this gathering creates space for difficult conversations without debate or spectacle. Rooted in mutual respect, the Long Table invites participants to speak from lived experience, listen across differences, and resist dehumanization at a local scale.

This Long Table series is generously funded by the Canadian Race Relations Foundation.

🥖 This multidisciplinary theatre project explores the history of student protest in Montréal over the past fifty years, tracing how young people have shaped the city through resistance, creativity, and collective action. Blending documentary performance, archival sound, and movement, the piece weaves together personal testimonies and political histories to tell a story of youth who refused to stay silent. The work reveals Montréal as a living archive of dissent, where every chant, strike, and march echoes the ongoing struggle for change.

Started in 2023 and accompanied by Teesri Duniya Theatre, this multidisciplinary play is rooted in the political and personal dimensions of food, in particular bread. With a combination of choral moments, storytelling, dance, photography, performance, theatre and music, the play will happen over three nights in the backyard and outdoor spaces of the theatre and will attempt to reimagine the concept of the “walking food tour” and ‘food stories’. Bread will be broken & refreshments will be served, please bring your picnic chairs and blankets. Audience and community participation is encouraged!

🎉 To inaugurate the Backyard Theatre and start the eponymous festival, we're inviting you to a special show: The Food/Famine Tour. 🌳

🥖 September 3rd will be the premiere of the show, as well as the launch party of this new venue created by Teesri. Come join us and taste the fruits of the garden as well as the food of the community! 🫒

This unique food tour/performance is a creation presented by the P.A.I.N collective and led by Anne-Marie St-Louis ( ). Started in 2023 and accompanied by Teesri Duniya Theatre, this multidisciplinary play is rooted in the political and personal dimensions of food, in particular bread. With a combination of choral moments, storytelling, dance, photography, performance, theatre and music, the play will happen over three nights in the backyard and outdoor spaces of the theatre and will attempt to reimagine the concept of the “walking food tour” and ‘food stories’. 🕊 A part of the Backyard Theatre Festival, Migratory Birds tells the stories of three characters from Latin America who move to Canada.

It explores their relationships with non- human species, their work, solitude, and nostalgia as they navigate life in the city and question their inclusion in this new world. The characters grapple with cultural differences and their emotions, creativity, and knowledge, forging connections that lead to encounters, recognition, and love. The play shares lived experiences and examines the dynamics of labour, exclusion, language politics, and borders. It depicts the characters’ commitment to the lands they now inhabit and their ongoing efforts towards decolonization.
