We were sitting on the patio this afternoon, when a young raccoon stopped by to pose for some photos after apparently being woken up by neighbours' lawnmowers... it seemed to be yawning, and stopped for a nap in one of our trees. 🦝
We don't see raccoons often, so this was kind of a treat for us, and a chance for me to get some reference pics for future paintings! 🎨

I'm happy that another of my paintings was "recognized" by the Jury of an international exhibition, this one presented by the Federation of Canadian Artists. 🎨
"Shape and Form" is an "annual exhibition of artworks that explore the visual language of shapes and forms", which continues through August 23, 2026.

Planned to do a quick off the back of my bicycle during my late-lunch ride today, but an old friend rode past while I was doing my initial sketch & he stopped to chat 🚲
The BEST reason to miss out on playing with my pigments is catching up with an old friend! ✨️

This morning I headed out to the École des métiers de la restauration et du tourisme de Montréal (Montréal School of Restauration and Tourism), to deliver one of my paintings for an exhibition in this light & airy dining room (even on a rainy day). 🍽
This exhibition opens tomorrow & will continue through January 4, 2027, coordinated by Artistes à Montréal//Artists in Montreal (thank you, Cathy!) 🎨
I'm already looking forward to heading back there for a meal once the exhibition has opened, as it's been a few years since my last dinner there! 🍛
The school's restaurants offer reasonably priced multi-course meals, prepared & served by students in the various programs, with wine suggestions from trainee Sommeliers. 🍇
They have a take-out counter, too! 🥣

A note about the architecture 🏛:
This beautiful Queen Anne style brick building was originally the Victoria (primary) School "named for Queen Victoria in celebration of her Golden Jubilee in 1887, when the foundation stone was laid."
After 1979, it housed the FACE School (Fine Arts Core Education), but by 2009 had been vacant for a few years...
"To convert it into a hospitality and tourism school... Architects were tasked with restoring the historic facades and roofs of the three buildings, partially restoring their interiors, redeveloping the site and upgrading the buildings to achieve LEED Silver certification."

Last chance! 💥
Today's the last day of the "Open Studio Days", presented by the West Island Art Studio Circuit 🎨
Yesterday my studio space saw a fantastic day of connections & conversations with visitors - about painting outside, my favourite watercolour pigments (made from finely-ground pure minerals and semi-precious stones like Amethyst & Garnet), inspirations for specific paintings, different types of watercolour paper, and more! ✨️

And, because I have a display of watercolour paintings about pain - as part of my Art Despite Pain initiative - there were also chats about pain research & neuroscience, as I'm a volunteer Patient Partner & co-author in projects for these. 🧠
I started learning to paint as a neuroplasticity-based approach to both my Mild Cognitive Impairment and chronic pain, from the same rare disease, so feel free to ask me about that! 🖌
🧭 Visual artists' studios are open today across the West Island as part of this event, from 10 AM to 4 PM, with mine in Pierrefonds West just south of rue Antoine-Faucon near where this road ends 👀

This weekend, during the "Open Studio Days" presented by the West Island Art Studio Circuit (in French the Circuit d'ateliers d'art de l'Ouest-de-l'Île), you can visit my studio space - with displays outside, too! ✨️
Different equipment I use for painting outdoors or "en plein air", like the Impressionists, and painting off the back of my bicycle. 🚲
Inside the studio you'll see preliminary sketches for paintings, how the many stages or washes of a watercolour come together in a finished painting, the kinds of art materials & tools I use, and more! 🎨

NOTE: A few studios may be closed on Sunday, due to risks of more rain-flooding = If, at 4 PM on Saturday, there's still rain in the forecast for Sunday, two studios won't open: Gaye McConnell, in Pointe-Claire Donna McGee, in Pierrefonds
And 1 studio will definitely be closed on Sunday: Lisa Kimberly Glickman, in Beaconsfield
So head over to those 3 studios on Saturday, if you're planning visits on both days! 🖌
