Hi everyone! I'm looking for Canadian women photographers who have kids for an article I'm writing for Mother's Day on May 10th.

I'll be looking at how caregiving your children has changed your photography and if/how it has affected when and how often you've been able to get out to shoot.

Ideally I'd like to hear about experiences from women at all levels of photography - beginner, intermediate, advanced, semi/professional.

The article will focus particularly on outdoor photography - landscape, nature, macro, adventure, wildlife, travel, and urbanscapes.

I'll be looking to do live interviews for 30-60 minutes via video call within the next week.

Gamal est né et a grandi à Montréal, puis il a déménagé à Edmonton (Alberta) en 2014. Il est francophone et parfaitement bilingue en français et en anglais.

Il a commencé la photographie en 2016, mais il s’y est investi sérieusement à partir de 2019. Au début, il faisait la photographie de paysage mais depuis trois ans, il se spécialise surtout en photographie de rue, portrait et prises de vue par drone. Il travaille avec un Canon EOS R et ses objectifs de prédilection sont le 24-70 mm, le 85 mm et le 70-200 mm.

Gamal est ravi de rejoindre l’équipe CPL en tant que nouveau modérateur et il a hâte d’échanger avec vous, d’apprendre ensemble et de continuer à progresser en tant que communauté.

Gamal was born and raised in Montreal and moved to Edmonton, Alberta in 2014. He’s francophone and fully bilingual in English and French.

He started getting into photography in 2016 and really dove in seriously in 2019. He began with landscape photography, but in the last three years he has mainly focused on street photography, portraits, and drone work. He shoots with a Canon EOS R and his go-to lenses are the 24-70mm, 85mm, and 70–200mm.

Gamal is excited to be joining the CPL team as a new moderator and is looking forward to connecting, learning, and growing with all of you.

We’re excited to announce the first of our new moderators, Ashley Giovannini .

Ashley (they/them) is a biologist and wildlife photographer located in beautiful British Columbia. They graduated with a bachelors in biology from UBC in 2024 where they conducted research on avian scavenger presence and abundance at cougar-killed carcasses in the southern interior of BC.

Ashley has participated in cougar kitten tagging, western screech owl tagging, kill site investigations, and other data collection activities as a student researcher. They are now working on environmental and regulatory monitoring for the T’say Keh Dene Nation.

Ashley has always had a deep love and appreciation for our world and all its inhabitants and shows that appreciation through photography. They are a big advocate of ethical wildlife experiences and encouraging people to connect more with nature.

They believe photography is an incredible tool for bridging the gap between people and the wild. Photography can help communicate science, it can provoke emotion, and it can help people become familiar with wildlife so their first encounters with wildlife in real life aren’t as intimidating.

When Ashley is not doing biology work or photography,. you can find them reading a good book about wildlife, social justice, or indigenous culture, or lifting weights in the gym prepping for their next strongwoman competition.

Ashley is excited to be part of the CPL team, connecting with new people, and helping to form a strong community of photographers across Canada.
