Located in a charming historic building in the Old Port of Montreal, Galerie Images Boréales represents the most established artists of the Inuit world. Our collection includes traditional as well as more contemporary artists that can be found in many of the most renowned museums around the world. The gallery also works with young emerging artists, providing them with a promising future by promoting the development of their careers. Through exhibitions and special events, Galerie Images Boréales is working on the dissemination and promotion of Inuit art. Lucy worked the basalt very sparingly, leaving large, undulating surfaces uncut, decorated with incised designs. For Lucy, a plane of flat stone has as much expressive power as a face. As a result, she greatly contributed to the development of a school of abstract and elementary expressionism of Inuit art. Occasionally, Lucy would incise images on her sculptures, indicating an interest in graphic art. In her later years, she turned to drawing, filling sheets of paper with very colourful, almost abstract images.

Tasseor travaillait le basalte très parcimonieusement, laissant de grandes surfaces ondulées non taillées, décorées de dessins incisés. Pour Lucy, un plan de pierre plate a autant de pouvoir expressif qu’un visage. De ce fait, elle a grandement contribué au développement d’une école d’expressionnisme abstrait et élémentaire d’art inuit. À l’occasion, l’artiste incisait des images sur ses sculptures, indiquant un intérêt pour l’art graphique. Dans ses dernières années, elle s’est tournée vers le dessin, remplissant des feuilles de papier avec des images très colorées, presque abstraites.

John Henry is a Kwakiutl artist from Fort Rupert on Vancouver Island and currently resides in Victoria, British Columbia. He comes from the respected Hunt and Smith family lineages, long associated with Kwakiutl art and cultural traditions.

Largely self-taught, John discovered his passion for art at a young age and further developed his skills under the guidance of respected mentors including Tony Hunt, Stan Hunt, Richard Hunt, and his grandfather, Henry. These formative influences helped shape both his technical approach and his deep respect for tradition.

John Henry est un artiste kwakiutl originaire de Fort Rupert, sur l’île de Vancouver, et réside actuellement à Victoria, en Colombie-Britannique. Il est issu des respectées lignées Hunt et Smith, étroitement associées à l’art et aux traditions culturelles kwakiutl.

Largement autodidacte, John a découvert sa passion pour l’art dès son plus jeune âge et a ensuite perfectionné sa pratique sous la guidance de mentors renommés, notamment Tony Hunt, Stan Hunt, Richard Hunt, ainsi que son grand-père, Henry.
