to my first complete painting outside of . It took me five months to complete--I kept changing my mind about the main idea and the composition. It was an extremely frustrating, but ultimately, rewarding experience. I made tons of mistakes on this one, learned a lot from them. I was initially embarrassed to show her to the world, but now she's one of my favourite works. It's weird and I love it.

Back in the studio after moving to !

First pass of a new piece that I planned back in August. This will likely be the most complex painting I've done yet. I'm terrified, but excited nonetheless 😅

One of my favourite things about starting a new set of paintings is stretching the canvas.

I learned how to during my Fine Arts undergrad and instantly loved it. I sweat like crazy, my arms ache, and my knuckles scrape and blister, but it's one of the most rewarding feelings to make a canvas yourself. I can now say that I've literally put my blood, sweat and tears into my work.

Recently, I acquired a large stack of used paintings and decided to refurbish all of them. Store-bought stretchers can vary widely in quality and re-stretching them myself ensures the quality of my paintings stays consistent. It's also a great way to save money!

There's always room for improvement, but damn I stretch a tight canvas ;)

This is me last night after I finished the final touches on the paintings behind me. This seemingly emotionless face is actually feeling several things:

1. Happy because just found my favourite green tuque that I thought I lost in the studio (thank you angel of the hallway!!)
2. Proud of myself for finishing a small series (something I've never done before)
3. Excited to start the next 5 paintings in this series!
4. Exhausted at the end of a long day and ready to go home

Two out of three portraits in this photo are done! I actually got a little emotional and giddy when I made the final stroke and I realized I was finished with the first two paintings. I've been working on a set of five pieces since late August (three are shown here), and these are the first two to be completed! FEELS SO GOOD 😌
