Finished this commission today, complete with custom painted frame, and delivered to the client in time for Mother’s Day!

Here are some close up shots of this special moment. It’s a watercolour painting and the acrylic frame is hand painted to match, with deep ultramarine blue and midnight black to let the high key patterned whites and golden - hair stand out in this special moment.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a sweeter picture.

To be very real: this picture took me nearly three years to complete, as the moment it depicts is the first picture of all the kids holding their new baby brother and that baby is now 3 years old (this week). The challenges are part of it - energetically finishing a picture, painting this

The work that went into it is part of what makes it really beautiful

I think that when it was unfinished everything else felt like I was taking away from this project but now that it’s done, I’ll start my next commission today!

More dog portraits, some of my favourite dogs, coming up! And creative challenges and collaboration with that one too I’m very excited,

I am also starting to teach an art class again. I’ll share some pictures from the first class soon.

I wanted to also say thank you to all my friends for your patience, your love, your time and attention. It means the world to me, I’ve got a lot to say and to share and sometimes I feel all alone in the world and then I remember all these real beautiful souls are walking the same path.

And no one’s journey can be shown all in photos or in story telling all of experience can only really be felt personally but from what everyone does share I appreciate it. It’s love and I’m here for it 💛

Sketches ✍🏻 from Mcnabs Island!

It occurred to me that this park (it was my first time there yesterday, as a volunteer and a member of ) is special to me for a few reasons and is one of the reasons that living in Halifax is so amazing

⭐️ reason 1 - is that it is like doing an ocean and forest hike while still being in the city 🏙️ I could see the city on the boat to get there but it is very much not the city and that contrast is incredible and one of the things that makes it so cool to live in halifax

Some things are untouched by time they are and they are not - on the island it’s a natural version of this

The whole city has this quality - the garden as a Victorian garden, the public garden, the commons and citadel hill, these things that are so prominent in the city and a whole provincial park right there

Pretty amazing

🌟 reason 2 - the friends of mcnabs, the volunteers. Such lovely smart accomplished incredible people. It was great to see it. I especially loved the “tree amigos”, the other woman who was almost the same age as me volunteering her time, the woman who lived on the island until she was 10 years old, the stone cutter, the expertly devoted director, the passionate teacher, the person who was there since the society started, the carpenters and cabinet makers, and the YouTubers. Just amazing each person was there and contributing I missed some but it was so good to meet everyone and be myself and contribute with my time and sketch there, what a dynamic and vibrant group of people. The friends of Mcnabs!

💛 and the third thing I like about Mcnabs is that when I look out on to the harbour I see mcnabs island there and there is a part of my imagination that thinks of those ships coming in , that first glimpse of land from Europe, what that must have been like. It’s special to me,

Plus

I think I just wanted to get out there I liked this day I’ll never forget it. So many nice places in Nova Scotia and hidden gems too I think it’s just the best place to live.

🪴✍🏻 Getting ready for the show! “Untouched by the Frost” will be open for the public to view Saturday, April 18th between 6:30 and 8:30 pm.

This is a group art exhibition showcasing work by 10 artists:

Ivy Wile
Cathy MacDonald
Eve Willow Dickson
Kyle Stewart
Janet Leigh Schaffner
Tasha Taylor .tt .tasha.t
James Covert
Cheryl Edgett
Juliya Revina
&
Claire Tatangelo

Today, I made the tags 🏷️ for the work it was actually my second draft on the tags because the first time I realized that they didn’t all match precisely and that some information was missing so I went back. Last week I was back with Ivy, who’s parents co own the business I have been employed with for the past 3.5 years.

Ivy is becoming a great artist and I was happy to give her the opportunity to showcase her work in this exhibition, she had a very interesting interpretation of the call prompt and I can’t wait to see all the people in her life supporting her, I’m very proud of her and it was really nice to bring her with me to put up her work last week,

This week I had another artist with me, Eve Willow Dickson, who was working diligently and is currently a painting student at NSCAD. It was great to have her there with me helping to prepare for the exhibition.

I can say that it’s great to encourage the furthering of ideas. I am looking forward to seeing lots of family, friends and art lovers at 222 waterfront drive to view the work and to support the arts!

Happy Easter 🐣 to all 💛

Thank you to and for your support, the time, the space, and for inviting me to be the resident artist.

Hope to see some of you there!

Artist Claire Tatangelo reflects on the process and inspirational sketches that went into the creation of the mural titled “Moonicorn”.

Here are some playful details that went into the design and this video highlights some of them and shows the artist at work. This mural was completed in one week as part of in the summer of 2025.

This concept was original work by the artist and entirely drawn and painted by her.

the blended roller design was intentionally selected in primary colours to create a striking impression from the ferry, which crosses the harbour and to be seen from far away
The yellow at the ends reversed the regular horizon, representing dawn and evening from left to right and a dream scape in the middle of the painting, bending time and dimensions of reality
The ice cream flavour is local to Nova Scotia and was experienced there from Cows ice cream located on the boardwalk, and the rest of the design was created after this ice cream’s name
The T-Rex doing a tricep dip on the bridge represents working out difficult parts of the mural, which was drawing the architectural structure of the bridge
The lobster and hooves of the Moonicorn creature both got dazzled as a finishing touch
The lights and the figure as well as the wings are inspired from real life drawing done at the harbour
The artist, who is also an author, wrote poetic short story about this mural after its completion. That will remain in her archive until a later date.

is looking forward to creating more murals in 2026!

March 1st! Happy March! has some items to add to you cal 🗓️ 👌

This Tuesday, March 3rd - there will be a blood moon at 333 am - celebrate by coming to my closing exhibit at the office space at 222 waterford drive in Bedford shared by & holos

What to expect: snacks, fun social mingling with the coolest ever authors, healers, doctors, artists, writers, members of the public, my friends, and whoever else shows up from the 12 coffee shops and businesses I visited to hand out personalized invitations 😂, art on the walls, STUNNING views of the Halifax Harbour, and my personal views on how these 8 works relate to the world around them through the experience I’ve had as the artist in residence.

This is an alcohol free reception and children are welcome. No cats 😂

There is a follow up event!

Because this is a closing:

I am inviting you, precious soul, in the third week of the third month of the year, in the year I call “33” for myself, to co create the next exhibition in this space.

Same address. Different time.

Saturday March 21st at 10 am we will curate a little show on the walls. You are worthy and welcome. DM me with any questions.

My intention is to show three of the works I have made during my residency and encourage others to further their artistic experience by taking part in a professionally curated art show. I will facilitate the process.

I would love to see you at both events and I am honoured to know so many talented, bright, beautiful souls and would encourage you to shine your light and I hope to see some of your beautiful faces this March and to inspire some creative energy in the world with these shows. Thank you to for your support, patience, encouragement and amazing vibes and providing me the space and time to be myself,

I extend these invitations to you, 😘

⭐️ This is also a comprehensive list of my absolute favourite cafes in the city of Halifax!

👌 I’d like to give a small shoutout to each location, and invite you, if you are so inclined, to attend this exhibition, and share a little about each spot and my experience there.

I also want to say one thing about the people I noticed in these cafes while I was there this morning, as well as from the other postings on the boards about community events happening this month : there are many beautiful, talented, deeply cool, sexy, hardworking people in these cafes. I saw you when I was there putting up these posters and if you see this post - the art show I have up is also sexy and cool just like you 😂

Let’s go in order:
what an awesome place for doing some work you have a great space and all the other baristas rave about your coffee!

I had a pretty mediocre first date here one time but I keep coming back because the vibe is on point and there are obviously so many hardworking people that come to your cafe! You are awesome and definitely had the most posters up - it was cool to see so many community connections!

I loved the art exhibition you guys have up and your staff is so friendly! You also had some pretty hot people in there so early in the morning I will be coming back 😂

you know I love you all forever ♾️ you know why!!

I stopped by because I love your food offerings although there is no community board here I invited some people and I hope you know I rate you in this list 10/10!

you are all so beautiful and special here and I’ve never seen so many happy plants in my life I hope you know you are appreciated 🤞🏻

I also made one super secret stop with a personalized invitation for a very special gallerist that I hope attends!

Thank you for being part of my life, beautiful amazing and way too cool coffee spots of Halifax, my hat is off to you and I will be back watch out 😂
