Mallory Lowe Mpoka assemble avec soin les photographies, la poésie et les récits de voyage pour cartographier son parcours de réconciliation, entre le sol du Cameroun et son atelier à Montréal. Elle tisse son récit de guérison aux histoires qui lui sont léguées à travers ses archives familiales camerounaises en se penchant sur la charge de la mémoire face à l’héritage colonial. Cette publication bilingue (en/fr) se conclue par un riche entretien entre Mallory Lowe Mpoka et Liz Ikiriko, artiste et commissaire à la Galerie TPW. Réalisé en co-production avec le Centre d’art et de diffusion CLARK.

À propos de l’artiste :
Mallory Lowe Mpoka est une artiste pluridisciplinaire, Camerounaise et Belge, basée à Tiohtiá:ke (Montréal). Sa pratique, centrée sur la photographie, les textiles et la céramique, aborde des thèmes tels que la migration, le traumatisme culturel, l’image de soi, la mémoire et le colonialisme environnemental. Elle a remporté le Prix Malick Sidibé en 2022 et le New Generation Photography Award en 2024. Son travail a été exposé à l’international, notamment au Savvy Contemporary (Berlin), à 1-54 (New York), à Villa Romana (Florence), au Musée Aga Khan (Toronto), et au Musée des Beaux-Arts de l’Ontario. Elle aura une exposition en duo au Musée des Beaux-Arts du Canada à l’hiver 2025.

Mallory Lowe Mpoka carefully brings together photographs, poetry and travel accounts to map her journey towards reconciliation, as she moves between the soil of Cameroon and her studio in Montreal. She weaves her healing path with the stories inherited through her Cameroonian family archives, reflecting on the responsibility of memory in the face of colonial legacy. This bilingual publication (en/fr) concludes with a rich interview between Mallory Lowe Mpoka and Liz Ikiriko, artist and curator at Galerie TPW. Co-produced with Centre d'art et de diffusion CLARK.

About the artist:
Mallory Lowe Mpoka is a Cameroonian Belgian multidisciplinary artist based in Tiohtiá:ke (Montreal). Her practice centers on photography, textiles, and ceramics while addressing themes of migration, cultural trauma, self-image, memory, and environmental colonialism. She won the Malick Sidibé Prize in 2022 and the New Generation Photography Award in 2024. Her work has been shown globally, including at Savvy Contemporary (Berlin), 1-54 (New York), Villa Romana (Florence), Aga Khan Museum (Toronto) and the Art Gallery of Ontario. She will have a duo exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada in Winter 2025.
