"Boys will be boys."

An impressive phrase, really.

It's often used to excuse aggression, cruelty, violence, recklessness, harassment, and behavior that would be unacceptable if we called it what it was.

When men commit violence, we're often invited to find the reason. But let a woman become dangerous and suddenly we're all very interested in accountability.

This painting isn't about celebrating a serial k1ller. It's a question. Why are some acts treated as human nature, while others become proof that someone was a monster? Because if boys will be boys, then girls, it seems, are expected to be saints.

And everyone gets uncomfortable when they aren't.

One of my most beloved paintings. Initially, her clothes were supposed to be torn (because of what happened to women in those cells before their "trials"), not a slit and a decolleté. I couldn't bring myself to paint the rips, now it looks like this. I might correct it some day.

What inspired the art?

They called it witchcraft.

But most of the time, it looked like this:
A woman alone.
A woman outspoken.
A woman who knew too much.
A woman who didn’t belong to anyone (aka not married).

Between the 15th and 18th centuries,
tens of thousands were executed,
the majority women.

Not because they flew.
Not because they made pacts with the devil. But because fear and control needed a target.

And women's independence looked dangerous. Midwives. Healers. Widows.
Women without so called "protection".

When crops failed, when illness spread,
when something went wrong,
someone had to be blamed.
So they burned them. Us.

This painting is not about the past.
It’s about what happens
when a society decides
certain women are too much.

Some things don't disappear. They evolve and change forms.

63 million forms for the very least.

I have built my page here with time, I haven't shared half of my work here due to censorship of artwork. I have been following the guidelines but Facebook loves to hurt artists. Or should I say Meta ? I know I'm not the only one as my fyp full of artists showing how this platform is hurting their visibility and business.

I haven't posted here for almost a month as no one will see it anyways. I will wait it out as the reason for the suspension is unclear. It is a horrible platform, and the AI is anything but intelligent.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing content creators. I salute you! For me personally, I consider it to be a tedious task. A chore I rather not do. Maybe I'll change my mind in the future, because for now I'd rather paint than be on camera, talk and edit videos.

In progress 🩸 a self portrait to add to my collection, it's my 4th! I'm planning the next one to be much bigger. Nothing else screams humility like a giant self portrait next to my other 4.
