We will be in 𝐐𝐔𝐄𝐁𝐄𝐂 𝐂𝐈𝐓𝐘 this weekend! Here's 5 questions with one of its greatest musical ambassadors: 𝐁𝐀𝐃 ‘𝐍𝐔𝐅𝐅!!!

𝐃𝐉 𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐋 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄 💀 : Have you ever misunderstood lyrics to a song? If so, which song (and what were the right / wrong lyrics)?

𝐁𝐀𝐃 ‘𝐍𝐔𝐅𝐅 🧔 : Yes, a lot! Grew up listening to anglophone music with lyrics I couldn’t understand until later in life, so I paid little attention to them most of the time, and when I did it was way off! I was twelve years old at the height of Sum 41’s popularity and their lyrics were fairly simple but still, too advanced for me at that point. During the chorus of 𝘐𝘯 𝘛𝘰𝘰 𝘋𝘦𝘦𝘱, "up above in my head" became "pop pop pop in my head".

𝐃𝐉 𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐋 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄 💀 : What is the worst DJ advice you’ve ever heard (and why)?

𝐁𝐀𝐃 ‘𝐍𝐔𝐅𝐅 🧔 : The advice I asked for has always been good but the worst advice, in general, comes unrequested and from posturing people who think of the DJ for the optics mainly and not the sonic aspect.

𝐃𝐉 𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐋 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄 💀 : Do you think you’ll listen to the same genres and styles of music 20 years from now?

𝐁𝐀𝐃 ‘𝐍𝐔𝐅𝐅 🧔 : I think I will! I hope so anyway! Barring global or personal disasters. The genres and styles probably won’t change too much but it might tip one way or another who knows! One thing’s for sure, we won’t be running out of good music any time soon!

𝐃𝐉 𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐋 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄 💀 : Name two artists from completely different scenes that would make for an unlikely (but interesting) collaboration.

𝐁𝐀𝐃 ‘𝐍𝐔𝐅𝐅 🧔 : That’s a though one! For my fantasy music group I’ll keep it simple, no bands and still alive. You never know what you’re gonna get when you put people together in the studio like that, so I’ll hedge my bets and choose two seemingly easy going people. Afroman and Jacob Collier.

𝐃𝐉 𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐋 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄 💀 : If you had to choose a theme song for Quebec City what would it be?

𝐁𝐀𝐃 ‘𝐍𝐔𝐅𝐅 🧔 : If I can be a bit sardonic in my response here, I’ll go with Ready for the 80’s by Village People. We often say that Québec city is a big village and that comes with the mentality, sometimes lagging behind in many ways so I think this is an obvious choice!

𝐃𝐉 𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐋 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄 💀 : Have you ever misunderstood lyrics to a song? If so, which song (and what were the right / wrong lyrics)?

𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐋𝐎𝐔𝐈𝐒 🤓 : As a born and raised French Canadian, every English song I'd listen to growing up could fit that description. I would say whatever came to my mind and made a bit of sense. I learned that there is an expression for that in France: "chanter en yaourt" (or "chanter en yogourt" in Québec), which translates to "singing in yogurt".

Otherwise, one song in particular comes to my mind and it’s 𝘋𝘔𝘟’𝘴 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘺 𝘜𝘱. When it came to the chorus, the only thing that I would get right is "up in here, up in here". The rest would be pure gibberish!

𝐃𝐉 𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐋 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄 💀 : 2. What is the worst DJ advice you’ve ever heard (and why)?

𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐋𝐎𝐔𝐈𝐒 🤓 : That wasn’t really an advice, but one night, there was a guy, who wasn’t really speaking French (but was trying!) that kept coming to the DJ booth repeating in « Franglais »: "Y’a pas assez the beats per minute!!!"
This sentence stayed in my head for weeks and even now, I keep thinking about it and I dunno why, I find it really funny!

𝐃𝐉 𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐋 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄 💀 : Do you think you’ll listen to the same genres and styles of music 20 years from now?

𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐋𝐎𝐔𝐈𝐒 🤓 : Probably, but hopefully not exclusively!
I’ve read that passed 30 I think, it starts to be more difficult for the brain to get interested in new music. I’ll try to stay open minded as long as I can, but I can’t say if I’ll become a true nostalgic! However, the pleasure of discovering new types of music or new artists is still driving me…I’m 28. We’ll see!

𝐃𝐉 𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐋 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄 💀 : Name two artists from completely different scenes that would make for an unlikely (but interesting) collaboration.

𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐋𝐎𝐔𝐈𝐒 🤓 : It’s a tough one! Difficult to expect the unexpected! With that said, I’m a huge fan of Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers (big surprise!) and I’d like to see him collaborate with any hip-hop/RnB artist. The likes of Anderson .Paak, Donald Glover or Erykah Badu! With that in mind, I would expect them to come up with a modern "Closer" type of track!

𝐃𝐉 𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐋 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄 💀 : If you had to choose a theme song for Quebec City what would it be?

𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐋𝐎𝐔𝐈𝐒 🤓 : As some may know, Québec is pretty much a Rock/Heavy Metal city!

The running gag is to say say that Quebecers strictly listen to Metallica. It gave birth to the funny expression : "Mes taxes, mes impôts, Metallica", as Quebecers are also known for their conservative views (not all of us, of course)! Also funny cuz some trashy radio shows like to think that Montrealers are in constant competition with Quebecers…so "Paranoid" fits them very well!
