On view: Dominique Sirois: La chambre virtuelle

Avec cette nouvelle itération de La chambre virtuelle, Dominique Sirois échafaude un habitat sculptural où se rencontrent l’alchimie, la tradition des sciences occultes, l’archéologie informatique et l’imaginaire spéculatif. Présentée cet hiver à Rouyn-Noranda — territoire marqué par l’exploitation minière —, l’exposition est de retour dans la métropole, dont l’histoire reste liée à l’industrialisation, traversée par les flux du commerce des ressources — métaux — et, aujourd’hui, par les réseaux du capital numérique.
Pour Sirois, la métamorphose est envisagée comme une puissance à la fois évocatrice et émancipatrice. L’alchimie — pratique ancestrale située au croisement de la philosophie, de la science et de la spiritualité — est apparue au Moyen-Orient avant de se diffuser en Europe, de l’Antiquité à la fin de la Renaissance. With this new iteration of La chambre virtuelle, Dominique Sirois builds a sculptural habitat where alchemy, the tradition of the occult sciences, computer archaeology, and the speculative imagination meet. Presented this winter in Rouyn-Noranda—a territory marked by mining exploitation—the exhibition now returns to the metropolis. The city's history remains linked to industrialization, crossed by the flows of the resource trade—metals—and, today, by the rise of digital capital.
For Sirois, metamorphosis is a power that is both evocative and emancipatory. Alchemy, an ancestral practice at the intersection of philosophy, science, and spirituality, emerged in the Middle East and later spread to Europe from Antiquity through the Renaissance.
