If there was no social media would I be making art?
I know the answer is a definite and resounding yes. But, I'm sure that the work I'm making would be different. Whether or not I am capable of consciously knowing or not my artwork is inevitably shaped by my participation in this medium of sharing.
What would excite me the most, is gaining more opportunities to show my works in person. This is why I am planning an art show with Studio Sanctuary .sanc .
Sure, there is some kind of interaction when it comes to people scrolling past my art on their phones. Some people might even pause the furious motion of their finger or thumb. Maybe even their pupils will scan over the photograph I've taken of this paper I spent hours agonizing over. Maybe my digital record of all this labor will be given approval via little digital thumbs up and little digital hearts.
But truly, my artistic soul really enjoys a true dialogue. Seeing and connecting to Art in person allows you to see and feel the real part of my soul that I put into the artwork. I think we all spend a lot of time scrolling, but it's easy to forget that art needs to be seen in person. How can we possibly consume art mindfully only through the digital record and screens?
This drawing I made of clouds was an extreme study from my own photographic reference. It's a small drawing but, it took a huge mental and technical effort. If you ever have the luck to see this in person, you will feel the intensity.
