Today I think of my great grandpa Sgt. George Falloon who served in the RCAF during WWII and my father CWO Carmen Bear who is currently serving nearly 40 years in the RCAF. The sacrifices they made for their families and our country is something not to glorify but to honour.
I honour the courage it takes to enrol, serve, and lose friends along the way. We keep those who have passed alive through stories and through remembrance.
My dad is in the first picture, wearing one of the first beaded poppies I ever made, now permitted to wear it in uniform starting this year. The following photos are poppies I’ve made this year. The final image is a poppy I made and wear proudly since 2022 beside a patch I designed for the 450 Sqrn. to remember two pilots, Capt. David Domagala and Capt. Marc Larouche, that lost their lives during a very early morning training flight in 2023.
Lest we forget the brothers/sisters, mothers/fathers, uncles/aunties, nephews/nieces, grandparents/grandchildren, the friends and acquaintances who have sacrificed their lives so we may live freely to this day.
