This October, Studio.Art.Lab has one very specific goal:

Raise $7,500 to support our Pay-What-You-Can Open Studio Sundays.

Every Sunday, we want to open our doors and create space for people to make, without cost being the reason they can't participate.

Open Studio gives our community access to creative space, tools, equipment, materials and support in an environment where you don't have to be an artist, own a sewing machine, have the “right” supplies or know exactly what you're doing before you walk through the door.

The $7,500 raised will directly help us keep Sundays accessible by supporting studio staffing and facilitation, materials and supplies, equipment use and maintenance, and the portion of participation costs not covered through Pay-What-You-Can contributions.

This isn't about giving something away for free.

It's about creating a model where those who can pay, pay. Those who can give more, give more. And those who can't right now still get to make.

What if your Friday night looked a little different?

GRIMOIRE FRIDAYS
Your Friday night ritual.

An adult creative lab where art, storytelling, symbolism and a little bit of magic meet at the table.

A grimoire doesn't have to be about spells.

Think of it as a book that becomes entirely your own—a place to collect ideas, symbols, botanical studies, stories, intentions, drawings, collage, observations, curiosities and the things that mean something to you.

Every Friday, we'll explore something different through:

✦ Mixed media + collage
✦ Drawing + personal symbolism
✦ Botanical and nature-inspired art
✦ Bookmaking + embellishment
✦ Folklore, myth + storytelling
✦ Journaling + creative reflection
✦ A little experimentation with the unexplained

You don't need to be an artist.
You don't need to be spiritual.
And you definitely don't need to know what you're doing.

Just come curious.

What happens when kids are given fabric, thread, paint, scraps, strange textures and permission to make something completely weird?

MONSTER MAKERS.

This October, After the Bell at Studio Art Lab becomes a monster-making laboratory.

Kids will design their own creatures from the imagination up—sketching characters, experimenting with textiles and mixed media, learning basic sewing and construction skills, and figuring out how to turn an idea into something they can actually hold.

Creepy. Funny. Fuzzy. Wonky. Completely ridiculous.

There is no right way to make a monster.

And that's exactly the point.

Along the way, makers practice:

✦ Sewing + hand-stitching
✦ Drawing + character design
✦ Fabric + textile exploration
✦ Mixed-media construction
✦ Problem solving + experimentation
✦ Making creative decisions independently

No experience necessary. No perfect outcomes expected.

An after-school fashion program for young creatives who want to explore what actually goes into becoming a designer.

Every Friday, students step into the studio and learn through the real design process:

✦ Colour, textiles + texture
✦ Silhouettes + design details
✦ Draping on dress forms
✦ Sewing + construction skills
✦ Turning an idea into something real
✦ Building a fashion portfolio
