My subjects are often times animals . I am drawn to the texture and color that come from nature . I have been a self employed artist for a few years now . My new work is vibrant and busy , some would say it is a reflection of my mind and the chaos that inhabits my thoughts . It is a beautiful chaos ! thank you for looking in and sharing a bit of my world .

A little real life studio shot today.

I spent the whole day here and never actually picked up a paintbrush.

It was one of those days for paperwork, accounting, emails, organizing supplies and getting things back in order.

I think sometimes we imagine an artist’s studio as this place where someone is endlessly painting and creating, but there’s a whole other side to making a living as an artist.

Some days I paint. Some days I ship. Some days I photograph work, answer emails, order supplies or sit surrounded by receipts.

Today was a receipts kind of day.

And that’s part of the job too.

Hopefully tomorrow there’ll be a little more paint involved.

This big guy found a home this week.

Always a good feeling to see a piece like this head off to new collectors.

Don’t let your art get lost on the wall. Let it take up space.

I think we have a tendency to play it safe when choosing the size of artwork for our homes. But when a wall can handle something substantial, going too small can actually make both the artwork and the space feel less impactful.

Large art creates a focal point. It gives a room presence, anchors the space and, surprisingly, can even make a room feel bigger.

So if you have the wall for it, don’t be afraid to go BIG.

Art doesn’t always need to politely fit into a space. Sometimes it should take it over.

🔴This big bear was a beauty. At this scale, he didn’t just hang on the wall, he made the space. Sold through Mountain Galleries

This 48 × 48 bear is large enough to make an impact, but still a great size for so many spaces. Beautiful details throughout, and this guy is actually still available through Mountain Galleries

🔴This bison was a stunner. That rich rust background against the blues was such an incredible combination, and it’s a colour palette I’m really excited to explore again. This guy was also sold through Mountain Galleries

And lastly, this moose was such a fun piece to make. The colour palette is incredibly vibrant, but it’s all the little details that make this one so special. There are tiny wild things, drawings and clippings sprinkled throughout the piece, with so much to discover up close. You can visit my website to see some of those details. I used to explore patterned backgrounds quite a bit in my work, and looking back at this piece has me wondering why I wandered away from them.

I love the contemporary twist the pattern brings, but I’m curious what you think. Do you like this busier, patterned approach, or do you prefer the backgrounds I’ve been exploring lately?

I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts.

Saturday in the studio.

Figuring out directions. A million ideas in my head and, admittedly, overthinking all of them.

The best way I’ve found to get unstuck? Just go. Move. Do something.

I think the thing that keeps me excited about creating work is that, although I usually have a basic framework or an idea of where a piece is going, the finished work is always a bit of a surprise to me.

Every painting gives me the opportunity to explore new colour combinations, make unexpected choices, and push the work somewhere I hadn’t necessarily planned.

I think that’s the magic of it and probably why I never get sick of painting. Every piece is its own little adventure.

A little Ann Murphy chaos.

I painted this one a few years ago, but it still feels so representative of who I am as an artist.

I’ve always been drawn to busy work. Lots of marks, lots of layers, lots to discover. I love giving my animals their own little personalities and expressions, and these sheep definitely have opinions.

The fur, the bits of paper tucked into it, the colour, the texture, all those tiny details… this is the kind of making that makes me happy.

A little busy. A little quirky. A little chaotic.

Very me.
