As we celebrate National Indigenous History Month, Atlantic Ballet would like to take a moment to thank our friends and leadership from the Wabanaki Confederacy for sharing so openly and working with us over the past 10 years; Elder Dr. Maggie Paul, Sitansisk Wolastoqiyik & Passamaquoddy; Elder Donna Augustine, Elsipogtog, Mi'kmak; Elder Lisa Perley Dutcher, Neqotkuk Wolastoqiyik; Elder Dr. Imelda Perley, Neqotkuk, Wolastoqiyik; Elder Dr. Andrea Simon, Elsipogtog,Mi'kmak; along with Atlantic Ballet Indigenous leadership Natasha Martin-Mitchell, Listuguj, Mi’kmaq; Nipahtuwet Naka Wespahtuwet (Possesom) Paul, Sitansisk, Wolastoqiyik.
Over the years, we have had the honour of working on many projects together including a special rendition of Ghosts of Violence in honour of the missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, the Standing Together forum, Pisuwin, the first ever Wolastoq Ballet, the Indigenous Mentorship Program and the Atlantic Ballet Indigenous Mawiamalga’tijig / Mawokahtine program.
This month and throughout the year, we honour the Knowledge Keepers, artists, and community leaders who continue to shape our shared future.

Alors que nous célébrons le Mois national de l’histoire autochtone, Le Ballet Atlantique souhaite prendre un moment pour remercier nos amis et les leaders de la Confédération Wabanaki qui ont partagé leurs connaissances avec tant de générosité et collaboré avec nous au cours des dix dernières années : l’Aînée Dre Maggie Paul, Wolastoqiyik de Sitansisk et Passamaquoddy; l’Aînée Donna Augustine, Mi’kmaq d’Elsipogtog; l’Aînée Lisa Perley Dutcher, Wolastoqiyik de Neqotkuk; l’Aînée Dre Imelda Perley, Wolastoqiyik de Neqotkuk; l’Aînée Dre Andrea Simon, Mi’kmaq d’Elsipogtog; ainsi que les dirigeants de Ballet Atlantique Autochtone, Natasha Martin-Mitchell, Mi’kmaq de Listuguj, et Nipahtuwet Naka Wespahtuwet (Possesom) Paul, Wolastoqiyik de Sitansisk.
Au fil des années, nous avons eu l’honneur de collaborer à de nombreux projets, notamment une présentation spéciale de Ombres de Violence en hommage aux femmes et aux filles autochtones disparues et assassinées, le forum Debout Ensemble, Pisuwin, le tout premier ballet wolastoqey, le Programme de mentorat autochtone ainsi que le programme de danse Mawiamalga’tijig / Mawokahtine.
Ce mois-ci et tout au long de l’année, nous rendons hommage aux gardiens et gardiennes du savoir, aux artistes et aux leaders communautaires qui continuent de façonner notre avenir commun.
