Max Wright is a Canadian artist born in Mississauga and currently based in Montreal. His practice involves glazing thin, translucent layers of oil paint over panel mounted c-print photographs, selectively obscuring details and reducing forms to their essential shapes.
Traditionally, oil painting glaze techniques are used to build depth, enhance form, and enrich a monochromatic underpainting. Wright’s technique provides the 𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘦 effect, using colour to simplify rather than reveal.
Bold and versatile, these works bring a contemporary edge to any interior. The rich colour and luminous surface creates interest without overwhelming a space, making them equally at home in a living room, dining room, office, or entry way.
