Huronia Players Theatre Group Community theatre with professional production values Huronia Players is a community theatre group based in Midland, Ontario.

We provide education and workshops for theatre arts and produce three major productions each year at the intimate 120 seat theatre in the Midland Cultural Centre at the corner of King and Elizabeth Streets.

The secret is out! We’re thrilled to announce the talented cast bringing our upcoming production of These Shining Lives to the Huronia Players stage, directed by Christine Killing!

Set against the backdrop of the 1920s and 1930s, These Shining Lives tells the powerful true-inspired story of women who worked at the Radium Dial Company, painting luminous watch dials with radium paint. What begins as a story of friendship, independence, and opportunity becomes a moving exploration of courage, resilience, and the fight for justice.

A CHEQUE PRESENTATION WITH A WHOLE LOT OF HEART!

We’re thrilled to share a wonderful update following the incredible success of this year’s 1st annual "Curtain Call for a Cause!" held by Huronia Players 🎭💙

A few of our Huronia Players Board members, along with our very own Rob Martin, recently had the opportunity to visit the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre and present them with a cheque from the funds raised through this year’s event.

The Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre does such amazing and important work right here in our community, providing support, resources, and a place of comfort for those navigating their cancer journey. We are so proud to be able to contribute to the incredible work they do.

A huge thank you to everyone who walked, donated, volunteered, sponsored, or simply helped spread the word. Your support made a difference! 🙏

And this is just the beginning…

We're coming together as a community to honour the memory of Steve Jupp, celebrate the strength of Rob Martin as he continues his fight, and support two incredible organizations making a difference for those affected by cancer.

🚶 Walk Details
📅 Sunday, July 26
🕙 Registration: 10:00 AM
📍 Harbourside Park, Midland

We'll walk along the beautiful Rotary Trail to the gazebo at Vas Kuchar Memorial Park and back, raising funds and awareness for the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre.

💙 Registration:
• Adults: Minimum $10 donation
• Children (12 & under): $2
• Larger donations are always greatly appreciated.

Whether you're walking in memory of a loved one, supporting someone currently fighting cancer, or simply want to make a difference, we'd love to have you join us.

We're also looking for volunteers and donations of refreshments and supplies for our hydration/rest stations. If you'd like to help, please reach out!

Let's come together, support one another, and show the strength of our community, one step at a time. We hope to see you there!

Auditions for our fall production of These Shining Lives are taking place on Sunday, July 26th from 2-4PM and on Tuesday, July 28th from 7-9PM. Auditions take place in the Huronia Players Rehearsal Hall, located on the second floor of the Midland Cultural Centre. Feel free to simply show up during an audition time slot or send an e-mail to [email protected] to express interest!

These Shining Lives is a heartfelt, emotional and life affirming drama about one woman's journey from a hopeful worker, with a close-knit group of co-workers, who ends up fighting for her life to hold her employer accountable for deciding that profit was more important than the health and safety of the workers making their products. Based on real events in the 1920-30s, the play tells the harrowing tale of how female workers fought for their rights, ultimately leading to the concept of workplace health and safety which we all benefit from today.

The show features 6 actors, with the opportunity to break up multiple roles into smaller parts. The main character, Catherine Donohue, is a woman aged 18-40 who is on stage for the entire play. There are 3 other female roles and 2 male roles for adult actors of any age to play a variety of characters. Please note there is some mild intimacy required for one male and female roles who play husband and wife.

The audition will consist of cold reads for a variety of scenes. The director is looking to see who has chemistry and who is able to easily demonstrate a wide variety in characterization.
