Our versatile facilities cater to various activities, from hockey and figure skating to speed skating and roller skating. The Middleton & District Arena hosted its first official hockey game over 50 years ago on January 20, 1971! The construction of the arena that we know now was truly a community effort. Prior to January 1971, the rink was erected by Nova Scotia Steel at a cost of just over $61,0

00. At that time the arena was nothing more than an empty steel building. The lighting was completed by Don Neily and his evening students from the Vocational School at a cost of $4,000 (some of which was raised by the Ladies Auxiliary). students Cecil Robicheau, Fred McGill and others raised $1,400 to purchase the necessary lumber to complete the boards. The carpentry class at the Vocational School constructed the boards in 10 foot sections while volunteers worked to install the boards. The community has continued to come together and support the arena through its necessary maintenance and repairs over the past 50 years. The Middleton & District Arena still operates as a vital recreation facility in the Town of Middleton playing host to countless sporting events, exceptional athletes and community gatherings!

Scheduling can be tough, so we've made a change to help more kids get out and play!

Due to a lacrosse tournament at the arena on June 6, we'll keep our regular session on Tuesday, June 2 from 5:30–6:30 PM. After that, Roller Hockey will move to Saturdays from 11:30 AM–12:30 PM following ball hockey.

The Middleton District Arena & Middleton Fire Department Rink Dance is coming up on Saturday, July 18, 2026, and we're looking for community members who would like to help make this fundraiser and future events a success!

This event is more than just a great night out - it's a fundraiser that helps support both the arena and our local fire department. To make it happen, we need volunteers to join our Fundraising Crew and assist with event planning and nights of activities.

We're looking for help with:
✅ Event setup and decorating
✅ Door admissions and guest assistance
✅Drink and 50/50 ticket sales
✅ Event cleanup
✅ Fundraising ideas and sponsorships
✅ General event planning and coordination

Whether you can help for a few hours or would like to be part of the planning team, we'd love to hear from you!
