The Client
Kardex, a global leader in intralogistics, providing “an intelligent entry into automation with its dynamic storage and retrieval systems.”

The Ask
Kardex explained that they’d come across a Playwell Bricks set in the wild and wanted to have one designed for the Kardex Shuttle. In addition to trade shows, the client also wanted to use the custom-designed sets of their product as a lead magnet for the sales teams. A custom set was a convenient and ideal solution for sharing what can be a building-sized product with potential clients.

How We Did It
Our designer used a mix of System and Technic parts to allow the builder to turn a dial on the side of the Kardex Shuttle which activates a gear that “slides the front door open to the top AND moved a platform to the front,” similar to the function of the real thing.

The Result
Kardex has a portable version of their product to share with potential clients at trade shows, as well as a premium lead magnet for their European sales teams. The Playwell team produced the build instructions and packaging in English, German, Italian, and French for these teams, making this custom set truly international.

'Twas the middle of summer, and all sat in the sun,
With Christmas months away, there was nothing to be done.

"Christmas?" they laughed. "That's ages away.
We'll think about gifts some other day."

August rolled in, but nobody cared.
"September is plenty of time," they declared.

September arrived. Someone started to sweat.
"But we've got October. We're not worried yet."

October appeared with a calendar stare.
"Wait... could that be Christmas I smell in the air?"

November walked in.
Everyone froze.

"Okay," someone whispered, "I'm chilled to my toes."

The gifts weren't designed.
The orders weren't placed.
And suddenly December was right in their face.

So while everyone else was beginning to worry,
One wisely prepared felt no need to scurry.

Because they planned in the summer.
They thought it through.
Their custom gifts already ordered,
And that could be you!

It's August.

Everyone else is talking about patios, vacations and how they're definitely going to use all their vacation days this year.

Meanwhile, Carol (we'll call her Carol) has already:

✅ Booked the Christmas flights
✅ Finished half her shopping
✅ Made the holiday dinner reservations
✅ Started talking about December plans

And honestly? We hate to admit it...

Carol is onto something. Because the people who aren't panicking in December are usually the people who were willing to be slightly annoying about planning in August.

Gifting shouldn’t be a last-minute rush against the clock ⏰

When one Amazon team leader wanted a unique and meaningful gift for their team, they knew they had to plan and get ahead of the Christmas rush. Fortunately, they had a plan, and to execute it, they contacted us!

Amazon had an internal mascot named Peccy, named so for Amazon’s operating principles, or “Peculiar Ways.” Peccy is a familiar face on posters and internal memos, and they’ve also been featured in multiple swag items over the years. Playwell’s client had noticed that Peccy swag had always been popular with the crew, so it was a tradition that they wanted to carry on with this gift.

From this concept, the Playwell Bricks team got to work designing Peccy with a palette and boxes to represent the work done by the client’s team in the warehouse. Decals that read “Peak 2025” were placed on the boxes and showcased the Den 5 logo. Peccy’s chest was also adorned with “Den 5 Wolfpack,” making Peccy a part of the client’s team.

The result? Something that will resonate and create connections long after the holiday decorations are put away.
