Gosh, It's been a long two months without hitting the track this summer! While Safety always comes first, this break has been hard on everyone. We still have 3 amazing events for the remainder of the year to make up for lost time! You won't want to miss any of these great weekends of racing. Mark your calendars and be sure to catch the action!

We've got a new race for you to mark on your calendar!!! Unfortunately with the wildfires we have had to adjust this season and add in an event just before the winter hits. Be sure to pack your warmest Halloween Costume, Grab a friend, and come on out to the races!

Nobody likes you when you’re dropping the black flag.

Nobody likes you when you’re making the call they don’t agree with.

Nobody likes you when that yellow comes out and ruins the run you were waiting all night to see.

And sometimes, nobody likes you simply because they saw something from the grandstands that looked a whole lot different from what you saw from the fence.

But that’s the thing about racing…

Every flag has a purpose. Every call has a reason. And while we’re watching the cars, they’re watching everything else — the track, the drivers, the conditions, the incidents, the things happening in places we may never even see.

We need the officials.

Their eyes have to stay on the track when ours are following our favorite car.

They have to make the call when there isn’t time to stop and ask what everyone else thinks.

And when safety is at the core of what you do, sometimes the right call isn’t the popular one.

We may cheer when the checkered flag falls.

We may groan when the yellow comes out.

We may question the black flag.

But from the first green to the final checkered, there are people standing around that track whose job is to help make sure everyone gets to race another night.

So tonight, Her View is for the ones behind the scenes and along the fence line…

The ones watching when we’re cheering.

The ones making the calls when we’re arguing.

The ones we don’t always notice until we disagree with them.

Because racing wouldn’t be racing without the people who keep the track moving — and keep safety at the center of it all.

We may not always like the call.

We may not always understand the decision.

But without them, we wouldn’t have the sport we love.

So maybe this weekend, instead of questioning the call…

we say thank you for being there to make it. 🏁

🏁 RACING CANCELLED — AUGUST 22 & 23

Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this weekend’s racing at Merritt Speedway due to the ongoing wildfire situation and extremely dry conditions throughout our region.

With active fires, evacuation alerts and the current drought conditions, we simply don’t feel that bringing a large number of racers and spectators to the track this weekend is the responsible choice. We also don’t want to add any unnecessary risk or place additional demand on emergency services during an already challenging fire season.

We know how much work goes into getting ready for a race weekend, especially for our racers and families travelling from out of town, and we’re disappointed to have to make this call.

❤️ A huge thank you to the firefighters, emergency personnel and volunteers working hard to protect our communities.

Our next race weekend is September 19 & 20, and we’re hopeful that cooler weather and improved conditions will have us back on track!

While our next race will be raising funds for the Nicola Valley Food Bank, they are in desperate need of donations right now. If you are able to help, please do so!

The Nicola Valley Food Bank is facing significant financial strain. We have recently reduced client distribution hours by approximately 20%, a decision made only after careful consideration and full transparency with our community.

At this time, donations and grants are critically low, and we want to be clear: we are not government funded.

In addition to food, we must cover essential operating costs such as rent, utilities, and fuel. These expenses are necessary to keep our doors open and ensure we can continue serving those who rely on us.

We are actively exploring every possible option to stabilize operations, but these processes take time. As a charity, we depend on the generosity of our community, and right now, your support is urgently needed.
