The Butterflies have landed!

Featuring 21 butterflies, 2 caterpillars, and one pupa, this carnival of colour and beauty will make your ocelli pop (ocelli are extra ‘mini eyes’ on the top of a butterflies head).

Emily S. Damstra is an Ontario artist and illustrator whose work explores many aspects of nature. In her youth, her parents gave her a Golden Guide to Butterflies, a butterfly net, and some encouragement to discover the species in her neighbourhood. Not only did these gifts spark her interest in nature, they ensured that butterflies perpetually rank First Place among Emily’s favourite animals. This collage of butterfly illustrations represents most of the Lepidoptera work in her career. She created the illustrations for interpretive signs at zoos and natural areas, for magazines and books, and for scientific publications.

This April cover of Canadian Magazine (1938) features everyday items of yore. A hat box, the white gloved police officer blowing a whistle and the pocket handkerchief. Were we ever so young?

This is our final puzzle in this 4-part collection, and we’re thrilled to see this beautiful cover by artist Ernest Davenport restored.

Canadian Magazine was first printed in 1893 and was meant to compete with American magazines like Harper's. The journal featured writers including Stephen Leacock, and in 1922 had 30,000 subscribers across the country. Alas, its last year in publication was 1938.
Available in all 3 sizes.
