Commissions hold a special place in my heart, none more than this memorial hat created for Marilyn Earl Weatherhead and family. A vintage Wrangler, this process started with a quality hat that had seen better days, thank you to Smithbilt Hats for taking care of it like one of their own, and restoring it to its original splendour. If this hat could talk it would tell stories, and we would laugh and cry and celebrate Earl, the man who wore it all over again.
Thank you Marilyn for the opportunity to create this piece for you, I am touched.
Also for the photo Jeff Weatherhead, a beautiful example of how a Copper adorned Western Hat can be sculptural work of art in a home or office. “Sometimes the nicest thing to do with a hat, is just look at it”

Copper Rubbings, these are so simpily beautiful and extension of my Copper practice. Though I have created them for many years, there are literally stacks of them in the studio! A fine paper is placed overtop of one of my copper pieces and rubbed with a wax based pencil. This show “Adorn the Day” Art Room on 2nd Gallery was the first time I properly framed them and showed them. I was so pleased with the results! And they truly are landmarks, these Prairie Giants are disappearing, every time we drive across the prairies there are fewer. Dotting the landscape along the rail road they tell so many stories! This one is nestled in the foothills, surrounded by long grass and wildflowers, lupine, paintbrush and black eyed Susan’s to name a few
