Le mot '' AU '' est inspiré de deux significations;
La première fait référence au domaine minier et au tableau périodique des éléments. L'or, qui est l'élément chimique de numéro atomique 79, porte le symbole AU. Ce symbole est formé des deux premières lettres du mot latin aurum. La deuxième, prend appui sur la langue orale pour aller vers la langue écrite. Le mot '' eau '' réfère à la définition du nom de notre ville en cri : Matagami = la rencontre des EAUX. L’histoire de la Galerie
Ce projet innovant porté par Radio Matagami s’inscrit dans la continuité de l’effervescence artistique présente dans la région depuis quelques années. Pour voir le jour, ce projet a nécessité une rénovation extérieure et intérieure complète du local situé dans le bâtiment « Le Jamésien », à l’entrée de la ville sur le boulevard Matagami. Dans une tangente artistique et culturelle, le service de développement de la Ville de Matagami a eu l’idée folle ou plutôt avant-gardiste d’avoir un lieu où l’on pourrait admirer toutes sortes d’œuvres d’art crées par les artistes et artisans d’Eeyou Istchee Baie-James. On cherchait alors un promoteur pour mener à bien le projet et Radio Matagami a levé la main. Ayant comme mandat de faire rayonner la culture, la Galerie d’art lui permettra de faire la promotion d’artistes via un autre médium que les ondes radiophoniques. C’est ainsi qu’est née la Galerie d’art AU. L’équipe de travail est formée de M. Daniel Cliche, Président de Radio Matagami, Mme. Marie-Ève C. Gallant, directrice générale de Radio Matagami, M. Hector Savoie à l’aide technique et Mme. Stéfanie Thompson, artiste-peintre professionnelle et chargée de projet. Ensembles, ils ont imaginé, structuré et réalisé toutes les étapes de ce merveilleux projet. L’accès à un lieu d’exposition est essentiel pour améliorer la qualité de vie des communautés. La culture est considérée comme un agent transformateur des milieux, un facteur indispensable au développement dans son intégralité, il est primordial de faire une place plus grande aux arts et à la culture afin de proposer des milieux de vie stimulants et créatifs. Ce projet a une pérennité et un potentiel d’impact réel à long terme. Il contribuera de façon significative à améliorer la qualité de vie des acteurs artistiques de la région et la découvrabilité de leurs créations. Envoi de candidatures :
Seuls les artistes et artisans résidents en Eeyou Istchee Baie-James, qu’ils soient Cris ou Jamésiens, pourront déposer leur dossier afin de faire partie de la liste des artistes et artisans exposés de façon permanente à la Galerie. Les disciplines artistiques acceptées sont; les arts visuels, les métiers d’art, les installations, les arts numériques, les arts multidisciplinaires, le cinéma/vidéo, les prestations théâtrales, la musique ainsi que la littérature et le conte pourront déposer leur candidature par courriel au : [email protected]
Un comité de sélection fera l’analyse de chacun des dossiers reçus selon des critères de sélection suivants; le professionnalisme de l’artiste/artisan, la qualité et l’originalité du travail et de la démarche artistique et la présentation du dossier. Le comité se réunira 2 fois par années pour procéder à l'acceptation des artistes/artisans permanents. Le comité se réserve le droit d’inviter des artistes non-permanents à exposer de façon éphémère. Les artistes et artisans auront le choix de mettre en vente ou non leurs œuvres. La Galerie d’art AU percevra 15% + frais squares sur les ventes. Les sommes perçues serviront à payer les frais de fonctionnement de la Galerie. The word ''AU'' is inspired by two meanings;

The word ''eau'' in french, meaning “water” refers to the definition of the name of our town in Cree: Matagami = the meeting of WATERS. The history of the Gallery
This innovative project led by Radio Matagami is a continuation of the artistic effervescence present in the region for several years. To see the light of day, this project had to require a complete exterior and interior renovation of the premises inside the “Le Jamésien” building, located at the entrance to the city on Matagami Boulevard. In an artistic and cultural tangent, the development department of the Town of Matagami had the crazy or rather the “avant-garde” idea of having a place where one could admire all kinds of artworks created by artists and artisans of Eeyou Istchee James-Bay. We were looking for a promoter to carry out the project and Radio Matagami raised its hand. With a mandate to promote culture, the Art Gallery will allow it to promote artists via a medium other than the radio waves. This is how the AU Art Gallery was born. The work team made up of Mr. Daniel Cliche, President of Radio Matagami, Mrs. Gallant, General Manager of Radio Matagami, Mr. Hector Savoie for technical assistance and Mrs. Stéfanie Thompson, professional painter and project manager have together structured and built the stages of the realization of this wonderful project. Access to an exhibition space is essential to improve the quality of life of communities. Culture is considered to be a transforming agent of environments, an essential factor for development in its entirety. It is essential to make more room for arts and culture in order to offer stimulating and creative living environments. This project has sustainability and real long-term impact potential. It will significantly contribute to improving the quality of life of artistic actors in the region and the discoverability of their creations. Sending applications:
Only artists and craftspeople residing in Eeyou Istchee Baie-James, whether they are Cree or Jamésiens, will be able to submit their application to be part of the list of artists and craftspeople on permanent display at the Gallery. The artistic disciplines accepted are; visual arts, fine crafts, installations, digital arts, multidisciplinary arts, cinema/video, theatrical performances, music as well as literature and storytelling can submit their application by email at: [email protected]
A committee will analyze each of the files received according to established selection criteria in August 2023. Artists and artisans will have the choice of whether or not to put their artworks up for sale. The AU Art Gallery will collect 15% + square fees on every sell. The sums collected will be used to pay the operating costs of the Gallery. A selection committee will analyze each of the files received according to the following selection criteria; the professionalism of the artist/craftsman, the quality and originality of the work and the artistic approach and the presentation of the file. The committee will meet twice a year to proceed with the acceptance of permanent artists/craftsmen. The committee reserves the right to invite guests artists to exhibit temporarily.
