10 Years Sober.
Ten years ago today, I walked into a tattoo shop in Lloydminster with a clear mind and a heavy heart. I knew I was standing at a crossroads. I made a decision that day not just to stop drinking, but to commit to a different life.
I got a tattoo that simply says, "One Day At A Time." It wasn't just ink. It was a promise to myself.
I didn't know exactly what the next ten years would look like. I didn't know who I would become. I just knew that if I wanted to reach my potential, I couldn't keep living the way I was.
Over the last decade, I've kept that commitment. Some days were easier than others, but I continued choosing sobriety, one day at a time.
Looking back now, sobriety has been the foundation for everything I'm grateful for.
It led me to meeting my partner, who also lives a life of sobriety. It allowed me to be present for my daughters and my family. It opened doors to opportunities I never thought possible. It helped me become a earn my Business Administration Diploma and Bachelor of Commerce degree, build my business, and work in a career where I can give back to Indigenous communities.
Most importantly, it allowed me to become the man I wanted to be.
When I see these photos, I don't just see milestones. I see the result of thousands of choices made over ten years. I see family, education, culture, healing, purpose, and growth.
Sobriety didn't magically solve every problem in my life, but it gave me the ability to face them. It gave me the chance to build something meaningful.
Today, I celebrate 10 years alcohol-free.
I am thankful for every lesson, every challenge, every person who supported me, and every blessing that came from choosing a different path.
Still one day at a time.
