Join us for an unparalleled evening of elegance, culture, and flavor as the Markham Wine Association hosts an exclusive, highly intimate wine pairing dinner in the heart of downtown Toronto.

On Thursday, June 18th at 6:30 PM, we invite you to step inside the critically acclaimed Mengrai Thai for a curated culinary experience designed strictly for epicureans and wine enthusiasts alike.

The Culinary Mastermind: Chef Sasi Meechai
At the helm of this evening’s menu is the internationally renowned, award-winning Chef Sasi Meechai. Originally from Chiang Rai in northern Thailand, Chef Sasi has earned highly respected accolades, including winning an Iron Chef-branded cooking competition and receiving the prestigious Thai Premium Select Certification from the Royal Thai Government. Operating out of Mengrai’s historic downtown space, her kitchen frequently caters to visiting Hollywood A-listers and celebrities, including John Travolta, Mick Jagger, Jessica Alba, and Drew Barrymore. Beyond her culinary artistry, Chef Sasi is deeply committed to philanthropy, running the Treetop Country charity to support children in rural Thailand. For one night only, she will be channeling her immense expertise into a custom menu designed to perfectly bridge authentic Thai flavours with fine French bubbles.

The Highlights
The Champagne Debut: Be among the first in Canada to experience our brand-new Champagne, imported directly from France. This exceptional, terroir-driven bottle represents the pinnacle of French craftsmanship, bringing crisp bubbles, brilliant complexity, and sophisticated structure to the evening.

An Off-Menu Tasting Experience: Chef Sasi and her team have stepped away from their standard menu to craft a completely custom, off-menu multi-course feast. Each dish has been meticulously engineered from scratch to harmonize with the vibrant acidity and rich undertones of our debut Champagne, blendin authentic Thai aromatics with fine French wine.

Pre‑holiday season surf, turf, and star bottles - we closed out the year in the best possible way: Markham Wine Association directors and friends around one table, an unapologetically indulgent spread of seafood, suckling pig and steak, and Burgundy in full force, with our favorite Burgundy Grand Crus and an outstanding Meursault Charmes Premier Cru magnum.
Two takeaways from the glasses:
Chablis Grand Cru is no longer the reliable “value haven” it once was. Top producers and constrained recent yields have pushed prices up, and while Chablis Grand Cru wines were generally cheaper than comparable grands crus from the Côte d’Or, Grand Cru bottlings from celebrated domaines now command serious premiums.
Corton’s reputation for being big and powerful is only part of the story - certain climats can show real elegance, finesse, and vibrant fruit.
