🎉 This Week's Outstanding Volunteer is Heather McTaggart! 🎉

Heather currently serves as the 1st Vice-President and Secretary of the Markdale Agricultural Society. Since joining the Society in 2023, she has become an invaluable leader whose dedication, passion, and hard work help keep our organization running smoothly.

Heather is the person many of us turn to when we need help, guidance, or support. From recording meeting minutes and keeping the Society organized to coordinating projects and helping set up events, she is always willing to step up and lend a hand. Her commitment to continuous learning and growth inspires those around her, and she is never afraid to take on new challenges.

A strong advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, Heather is constantly working to make the Markdale Agricultural Society a welcoming place for everyone. She brings forward new ideas, encourages innovation, and is always open to hearing the ideas of others.

Heather is involved in many of our committees, including the Entertainment Committee, where she helps plan the activities, music, vendors, bouncy castles, and more that make the Markdale Fall Fair such a memorable experience. She also plays a key role in facilitating our chicken order fundraiser and serves as a main point of contact for many Society initiatives.

Heather's leadership, organization, and dedication have made her a true pillar of the Markdale Agricultural Society. We are incredibly grateful for everything she does and are proud to recognize her as this week's Outstanding Volunteer!

🌷 Today's Markdale Fall Fair Class Highlight is Floriculture – Classes 7–10! 🌷

The Floriculture Division includes:

🌿 Class 7 – House Plants
🌿 Class 8 – Patio Plants
🌿 Class 9 – Cut Flowers
🌿 Class 10 – Floral Design

These classes are open to all non-junior exhibitors (a separate Floriculture division is available in the Junior Fair Classes). Exhibitors may enter one entry per section.

Some of the beautiful exhibits you can expect to see include succulents, cacti, African violets, hibiscus, geraniums, roses, dahlias, sunflowers, marigolds, and so much more!

🏆 Judge's Choice Prizes

Class 7 – Generously donated by Vanvugt Greenhouses
Classes 8 & 9 – Kindly donated by Annan-Way Nursery
Class 10 – Generously donated by Westside Nurseries & Greenhouses Ltd.

🌼 The exhibitor earning the most points across Classes 7–10 combined will receive the Vida and Leslie Hawken Memorial Special, a gift generously donated by the Hawken and Hanna families.

🎉This week's outstanding youth volunteer is Tyson Strutt! 🎉

Tyson has been a dedicated volunteer with the Markdale Agricultural Society since he was just a little kid. Over the years, he has become someone we can always count on to lend a hand whenever help is needed. Whether it's moving equipment, setting up for events, or tackling heavy lifting, Tyson is always willing to step up and help out.

In addition to volunteering at our events, Tyson is an active member of the committee for Class 5 – Field Crops. While he plays an important role in this class, he is always eager to help with other sections of the fair as well. His willingness to volunteer wherever needed demonstrates his commitment to making the Markdale Fall Fair a success.

One of Tyson's favorite parts of the fair is the cattle competition, where his passion for agriculture truly shines. His enthusiasm, strong work ethic, and dedication to the Agricultural Society make him an outstanding role model for other young volunteers.

Thank you, Tyson, for your years of service, your positive attitude, and your continued commitment to the Markdale Agricultural Society. We are grateful to have you as part of our fair family! 💚

One of the many great parts of the Markdale Fall Fair is our exhibits! Our fair has 32 different classes for people of all ages to participate in.

This week's fair book class highlight is Class 3 - Pet Show! 🐶🐾🐱🐰🐇

During the fair, on August 29th the Markdale Fall Fair will be having our annual pet show! Sign up for the show starts at 1pm August 29th and the show will begin at about 1:15pm. This class is open to exhibitors 16 years of age and under, each exhibitor is allowed to show 1 pet.

The sections include:
1. Best dressed pet
2. Cat or Kitten
3. Dog or Puppy
4. Small pet (not a cat or dog)
5. Silliest Pet
6. Photo of your pet that you cannot bring to the fair - must be a 4" X 6" photo that is printed
7. Favourite stuffed animal
Bonus section: 168 Years - "Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow" SPECIAL - Each child who enters into the class will have their name added to a draw for a gift basket donated by the Bechan Family.
