🚨 A REMINDER ABOUT TOWN GARBAGE CANS 🚨

The Town of Marathon is seeing an increasing amount of household garbage, recycling boxes, fish guts and other inappropriate waste being disposed of in public garbage cans throughout the community.

These cans are provided for small amounts of litter generated while using our parks, trails and public spaces. They are not an alternative to household garbage and recycling services.

⚠️ Individuals caught improperly disposing of household or other prohibited waste in Town garbage cans will be subject to fines.

Please dispose of your household waste and recycling appropriately and help us keep Marathon clean for everyone.

Town of Marathon at AMO 2026

The Town of Marathon was well represented at the 2026 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference by Mayor Rick Dumas, Councillors Greg Vallance and Todd Wheeler, and CAO Daryl Skworchinski.

AMO brings municipalities from across Ontario together with provincial leaders and provides an important opportunity to advocate for the priorities and needs of our community and Northern Ontario.

Throughout the conference, Marathon’s delegation participated in a number of valuable meetings and discussions, including with the Minister of Northern Development, the Minister of Sport, representatives from the Ministry of Mines and Energy, and the Ontario Medical Association (OMA).

These conversations help build important relationships, highlight the opportunities and challenges facing our community, and ensure Marathon continues to have a strong voice at the provincial level.

Thank you to Mayor Dumas, Councillors Vallance and Wheeler, and CAO Skworchinski for representing and advocating for Marathon at AMO 2026! 💙
