Next up is Despina Kourtessis🩵

Let’s learn a little more about Despina...

When did you start dancing?
I started dancing in august of 2020

What is your best moment on stage?
I believe that my best moment on stage was when i was dancing my first hiphop solo and winning first overall in the session.

What is one of your favourite memories?
My favourite memory was getting close with some of the aquas

What is your favourite style of dance?
My favourite style of dance is hiphop

What are your plans for the next year?
Next year I plan to work lots and go to KPU for nursing.

Is there anything PPSD taught you, that you’ll take with you?
PPSD taught me how to build my confidence on stage and pushed me to become a stronger dancer. I will take all my dance experience and still dance after high school.

What is your favourite dance costume?
My favourite costume was Mr Sandman from this year.

Do you have any funny or embarrassing moments on stage that you’d like to share?
My most embarassing moment on stage was probably forgetting an 8 count on stage or laughing uncontrollably

What/Who will you miss most about PPSD?
What ill miss most about dance is the community and how much ive learned from it. I’ll miss the aquas so much and all of the teachers.

Our dancers had the incredible opportunity to perform alongside Tyson Venegas at the Freedom Mobile Arch Opening Ceremony, and it was an unforgettable experience!

They worked incredibly hard, fitting in extra rehearsals alongside their busy competition and performance schedules to prepare for this special event. We were so proud to see their dedication and talent shine on stage.
It was an honor to be part of the opening celebration and one of the first groups to perform in the brand-new Amphitheatre at the PNE.

A huge thank you to PRP for providing this amazing opportunity. We are so grateful to have been part of such a memorable event!

Let’s learn a little more about Lina...

When did you start dancing?
I started dancing when I was 2 or 3

What is your best moment on stage?
I definitely have to say Team Canada Hiphop 2024. I got to dance on a massive stage in North Macedonia. Pretty cool.

What is one of your favourite memories?
Even though I’ve only been here for a year, I’ve made so many amazing memories. My favourite though, has to be when the corals wrote an apology song for Vanessa and Leilani and sang it for them in ballet.

What is your favourite style of dance?
My favourite style of dance is hiphop, tap, or contemp.

What are your plans for the next year?
I’m doing The Source next year!

Is there anything PPSD taught you, that you’ll take with you?
I’ve always had a hard time fully being myself. Dancing in general taught me that it’s okay to be different, and it’s actually a good thing to stand out as a dancer, and even just as a human being. PPSD helped me with that even more, and I’ll forever be grateful.

What is your favourite dance costume?
I’ve had a lot of crazy costumes over the years, but my favourite has got to be my chicken costume for my first tap duo.

Do you have any funny or embarrassing moments on stage that you’d like to share?
The embarrassing moments I’ve had on stage are seriously uncountable. I’ve fallen so many times like with my slow motion fall/sit down in my tap solo this year. 

What/Who will you miss most about PPSD?
I’m going to miss everyone. Moving studios for my grad year was terrifying, but everyone made me feel so welcome right away. Thanks guys, much appreciated😁

Let’s learn a little more about Sadie...

When did you start dancing?
I started dancing in 2020 and have continued ever since. 

What is your best moment on stage?
My favourite moment on stage was the last time performing my lyrical dance in 2024. There were only four of us in the dance and it was my last time on stage with my best friend cecilia before she moved away, and it was such an emotional and connected moment for us all. 

What is one of your favourite memories?
I love just all of us having fun in the studio especially when a good song comes on for across the floor, and all the stories we’ve shared and told with each other on the daily. 

What is your favourite style of dance?
My favourite style of dance is either ballet or hip hop. 

What are your plans for the next year?
I will be taking a gap year next year and continue with post-secondary the following year. 

Is there anything PPSD taught you, that you’ll take with you?
Leading into the next years i’ll definitely take all of the advice from each and every dance teacher i’ve had. I appreciate how honest and observing they all have been while making PPSD a very inclusive and comfortable place for each and every person. 

What is your favourite dance costume?
My favourite costume would have to be from my ballet dance in 2024. The song was an instrumental version of Everlong and we quickly put together a black body suit, tights and a black skirt and I think it matched the song really well and was definitely one of the most comfortable to dance in. 

Do you have any funny or embarrassing moments on stage that you’d like to share?
My most embarrassing moment on stage would have to be from the last comp; we had just started our tap routine and I started 8 counts earlier than I was supposed to.

When did you start dancing?
In 2014

What is your best moment on stage?
Experiencing power surges on stage with my group during competition.

What is one of your favourite memories?
All of the laughs with my group during dance breaks at the studio.

What is your favourite style of dance?
Jazz and lyrical

What are your plans for the next year?
Attending college to pursue dental hygienist program.

Is there anything PPSD taught you, that you’ll take with you?
The dance studio has shaped me into a stronger person by teaching me resilience in the face of challenges, discipline in pursuing my goals, and the confidence to believe in myself both on and off the stage.

What is your favourite dance costume?
My favourite costume is my traveling jazz group, Whip It.

Do you have any funny or embarrassing moments on stage that you’d like to share?
Forgetting the choreography for the “Hills of Ireland” dance during competition.

What/who will you miss the most at PPSD?
Having a place where I felt truly accepted which allowed me to grow and express myself freely. I will miss the friendships I have built along the way, as well as the teachers who have guided, supported, and shaped me into the person I am today.
