Winter Romance Artist Spotlight: Meet Fiona Short, Youth Performer ⭐

At just 13, London-based vocalist Fiona Short is already building an impressive artistic path. A student at Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts, she trains in Conservatory Canada’s vocal and piano programs with Rachelle Courtney and studies commercial/professional voice with Canadian artist Amanda Kind. Alongside her music studies, Fiona trains in ballet and multiple dance styles, shaping her into a versatile young performer.

Fiona has appeared in three productions with Drayton Entertainment and six productions with the London Performing Arts Academy, and she also performs with POPNATION Canada. Her talent has earned her distinctions including 4× Ontario NATS Musical Theatre champion, 2× Pop category champion, and 3× Kiwanis London Showcase winner, as well as a finalist placement in Canada’s 2025 Teen Jam.

Expanding her work into film and television, Fiona will appear in three upcoming 2026 releases — including a musical series in which she stars as the lead, performing original music by Nathan Fleet.

The Jubilate Bells, Metropolitan’s resident handbell choir, join us this evening for a special performance. They are a vibrant part of music life at Met—performing throughout the year, participating in handbell festivals, and appearing in featured concerts like tonight’s.

They’ll be appearing with youth vocalist Fiona Short in a featured selection this evening.

Winter Romance Artist Spotlight: meet Marianna Chibotar-Rutkevich, Pianist! ⭐

Marianna Chibotar-Rutkevich is an internationally trained and award-winning concert pianist, holding advanced degrees in performance, musicology, and pedagogy from the State University of Kishinev in Moldova, where she also served as Associate Professor of Piano.

Her career has taken her to stages across Europe — including Prague, Athens, Rotterdam, Bucharest, Ettlingen, and Moscow — and she has been recognized for her expressive musicality, technical mastery, and distinctive sound. She has appeared on CBC Radio and Television, performed for major Canadian competitions, and is in high demand as a collaborative pianist, adjudicator, clinician, and examiner.

Marianna currently serves on the piano faculty at Western University’s Don Wright Faculty of Music, where she is a dedicated educator and mentor. Her students continue to shine in competitions at national and international levels.

Winter Romance Artist Spotlight: meet Aaron Dimoff, Baritone! ⭐

Ontario-born baritone Aaron Dimoff is recognized as one of Canada’s exciting new Verismo voices. He has recently earned acclaim for his debuts as Sparafucile and Monterone in Rigoletto with Edmonton Opera, alongside performances of Messiah and Ein deutsches Requiem with Bow Valley Chorus and Calgary Festival Chorus. Earlier seasons featured him as a finalist in the prestigious COC Centre Stage competition, as well as standout roles including Marchese d’Obigny in La Traviata and Sacristan in Tosca.

Aaron’s operatic experience spans fan-favourite repertoire and modern works alike: Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), British Major (Silent Night), Father (Hansel and Gretel), Collatinus (The R**e of Lucretia), and Der Sprecher (Die Zauberflöte). A sought-after concert soloist, he has performed major works including Elijah, Carmina Burana, Requiem (Fauré & Mozart), Bach, and Handel with ensembles across Canada — with upcoming performances of Messiah, Requiem, and Carmina Burana ahead this season.

Winter Romance Artist Spotlight: Meet Jacob Abrahamse, Tenor! ⭐

Hailed by Opera Canada as a “gifted tenor” with a “beautiful timbre,” Jacob Abrahamse is quickly establishing himself as an exciting presence on opera and concert stages across North America. This season brings two major highlights: his upcoming debut at The Dallas Opera as The Snake/The Vain Man in Rachel Portman’s The Little Prince, and a performance as the tenor soloist in Haydn’s Die Schöpfung with the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra.

Jacob is currently in his second season as an Apprentice Singer with The Santa Fe Opera, where he has performed roles including the Street Vendor in La bohème, Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Tinca in Il Tabarro, and Little Bat in Susannah, while also covering roles in Le nozze di Figaro and Der Rosenkavalier. His credits also include Alfredo in La Traviata with Brott Opera, tenor soloist in Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and Bach’s Mass in B Minor with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.

With vibrant artistry and a thrilling vocal presence, Jacob is sure to bring unforgettable passion to the stage at Winter Romance: A Metropolitan Christmas Opera Gala. We can’t wait for you to hear him! ❤️
