With very heavy hearts, we share that Brian Carey, a cherished member of the Grand Theatre family, has passed away. It is hard to imagine our theatre without him.

If you’ve been to the Grand, you’re likely to have met Brian. Season after season, he volunteered at what seemed like every performance and event. His unwavering support of the theatre was extraordinary, and his commitment never wavered.

Brian was thoughtful, dependable, funny, and deeply caring. Brian had an incredible gift for making people feel welcome. He greeted everyone with a smile, a kind word, and a willingness to help wherever he was needed. Whether he was welcoming patrons, lending a hand behind the scenes, sharing a laugh with staff and volunteers, or handing out chocolate, Brian brought warmth, humour, and kindness to every interaction.

Our hearts are with Brian's family and loved ones as they navigate this unimaginable loss. We are profoundly grateful that Brian chose to spend so much of his time with us. His legacy will live on not only through the countless hours he volunteered, but through the friendships he built, the lives he touched, and the spirit of kindness he shared so freely.

Above in the flys, below in the trap, across town in the Scene Shop, wrapped on all sides by Wardrobe, Props, and of course Security, Box Office, and Front of House staff and volunteers – this is London Made.

Sets created from scratch by the Carpentry and Scenic Arts teams at the Grand Theatre Scene Shop in East London. Within the downtown walls of the Grand Theatre itself, costumes are cut, died, stitched, and fit by the Wardrobe Department. The Props Department builds, prints, paints, upholsters, and more to bring each show’s world to life. All season long, night after night, an exceptionally talented crew sees each show through to its bows. Thank you to all who make Grand Theatre productions possible, from build to strike and everything in between.
