Our Banting House National Historic Site of Canada attraction is the perfect example of how Augmented Reality can bring you nearer to the action than ever before.

“…You can actually get closer to Banting’s artwork through this app than you can in the museum because you can literally walk right up to it through your phone,” said Maltman. In contrast, inside the museum “our volunteer guides will make sure you’re back a few feet.”

Thank you The London Free Press for this excellent article and video and to DIG OEV for their support—check it out here:

If you've ever wondered what life was like for the London doctor who came up with the life-saving treatment for diabetes, now's your chance to find out.

Museum attendance dropped 77% among the top 100 art museums in the world in 2020, and attendance was likely even more strained for smaller institutions.

To celebrate we’re sharing this video to explain how we were able to take Banting House National Historic Site of Canada and create a multi layered attraction to cope with restrictions.

The theme for International Museum Day is The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine. We hope 2021 will have museum owners looking to digital as a way not only to cope with the current climate but a way to expand on the necessary experience museums already provide through digital innovation. Here's to 2021!

Could your idea win you $1,000?

The Centre for Environment and Sustainability is launching a new competition today called Augmented Good (https://engage.art/augmentedgood) that asks students to come up with ideas on how we can convey information about environmental issues through augmented reality. Tell us about an environmental issue you are passionate about and you could win $1000! Here at Western, we know how engaged and passionate our student body is about environmental issues and being a part of developing solutions for them.

That’s why Western’s Faculty of Science and the Centre of Environment and Sustainability have teamed up with local augmented reality specialists, EXAR studios, to create the Augmented Good Competition. This is an opportunity for any and all Western students to help spread awareness about environmental issues by creating unique augmented reality stories – and getting paid for it.

On your own, or as a member of a team, come up with an idea for how we use augmented reality to convey an important environmental message in an engaging new way, then complete a short 2 minute video detailing your idea and you could win $1000 grand prize! EXAR studios will work with the winner to transform your idea into an immersive AR experience right here on Western’s campus using their Engage Art App!

In case you haven’t already heard, we have been selected as a recipient in the Digital Main Street program. We’ll be collaborating with various partners to transform main streets using the power of augmented reality and the Engage App starting with DIG OEV!
This was made possible with funding from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) as well as the Government of Ontario.

“When we started the journey to create Engage, our AR app, we started by asking ourselves how our technology could serve the small business community struggling as a result of COVID-19. We held a conviction that beauty, interactivity, arts and culture, history, local stories and a narrative of hope for the future – could be the mechanism for uplifting what ‘local’ truly means.” - Ben Switzer, EXAR Studios co-founder
