Lady Locavore

Lady Locavore Eat Healthy, Eat Local, Eat Organic. Join our CSA. This cabbage, these carrots, these potatoes, these onions...will soon become me. Such a tasty fact! Birdsong.

We are a Community of Locovores and want to be Locavores, Vegan, Vegetarian, and Omnivores alike. Eat Local Organic and Join our CSA. A Locavore is a person who believes that we should eat food that is local, fresh, seasonal, organic and sustainable. A growing segment of the population agrees that politically, economically, socially and health-wise, this is the only way to eat. By posting recipes

here, I attempt to adhere to the locavore principles where possible, but at the same time take into account the limitations that some people face in their attempts to find local food. As Lady Locavore, I started my page as a way to keep my CSA members up to date with recent news and information that may be important for our deliveries. But more than that, I started my page as a way to share with the community knowledge about the benefits of eating Local. Rich, Loamy Soil, chock full of every coveted nutrient, carpets of grass, myriads of flowers in full blooming glory. The
humming of a million bees. Contented animals roaming free range. Fruit trees in abundance, and smaller
bushes and vines glistening with fruit. Vegetables! Picture them in every shade of living green. Blushing Tomatoes,
walloping Cabbages, golden Melons. Two humans, exquisite in their love and bliss, caring for their God-given garden. Perfection in its entirety. Not a blemish, Not a droop, Not a w**d. Loads of luscious, life-giving food, totally free of the
poisoning touch of any chemical or man-made invention. Garden of Eden! Peace. Fulfillment and meaning. God and
mankind and nature in harmony. Our Farm is a far cry from the Paradise described above. Especially by mid-summer, when pressing duties keep us
from reaching around various corners of our fifty acres begin to show neglect. Weeds mock us. Large striped bugs
gobble our potato plants. Climber vines slump for lack of string. We make mistakes, and we are subject to failure and
discouragement. In spite of these setbacks, we do share in the fulfillment and satisfaction that Adam and Eve must
have felt in their garden. We thrill to the magic of the soil and the growth that emerges from it. To labor and to achieve
is sweet. It is rewarding to watch the process of brick-hard clay soil become crumbly and workable with proper
management. It feels good to see an earth worm population, once nearly exterminated by chemical cruelty, rebound in
joyous wriggling masses. As imperfect human beings, there is much we do not know, and need to learn. Yet our goal is
still to live in harmony with God, nature and our fellow man. Most of us have experienced the let-down of finding out that food we had purchased in good faith, turned out to be
genetically modified, or in some way not as wholesome as we had thought it to be. We have no desire to make great claims and boasts about the food you buy from our farm. We are human and we
make mistakes. Life is not perfect, and over some things we have no control. but we do want to assure you that we will
do all we can. Our all-out goal is to provide you with food that is safe and nutrient dense. We refrain from all things
toxic, and Mervin has a passion for building up soils, nourishing them with composts, rock minerals, sea minerals,
cover-crops, kelp meal and beneficial biology. We hope that in a small way our produce will bless your lives. We would like to invite you to share the benefits of our garden with us. You are welcome to arrange visits to our farm to
see and touch first hand, the soil and plants your food is coming from.

Home canned ground beef is great to have on hand to make tacos from or to add to stir-fried rice, casseroles, creamed sauces, noodle dishes, chili, etc. Freeze the broth from the jar; it’s essentially pure beef stock and is great for soups. Here, we work through the USDA’s directions. Please not...
