This Thanksgiving weekend, Wortley Pride is grateful for our community, our volunteers, and every person who has made space for us to gather, celebrate, and belong.
We also recognize that gratitude must include truth. The land we gather on in London is the traditional territory of the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak, and Attawandaron peoples. Today, the Chippewas of the Thames, Oneida Nation of the Thames, and Munsee-Delaware Nation are our nearest First Nations neighbours. They are the original and ongoing stewards of this land, and their care for it long predates our being here.
As a 2SLGBTQIA+ organization, we honour that the "2S" in our name comes first. Two-Spirit people held respected places in many Indigenous nations long before colonization tried to erase them. We are committed to learning, listening, and showing up as allies, not just this weekend but all year.
This Thanksgiving, consider supporting Indigenous-led organizations in our city like Atlohsa Family Healing Services and N'Amerind (London) Friendship Centre. 🧡
Wishing everyone a safe and warm long weekend, with chosen family, given family, or both.
