Would you buy art supplies from the dollar store?

Everyone’s gotta start somewhere! TBH I’ve been painting my whole life and I still keep going back! A lot of the stuff at Dollarama works just fine, especially if you’re on a budget. Plus, it’s where I get my CELSIUS Energy Drink.

Social media isn’t toxic, you are! ☣️

Okay, maybe you’re not. But your scrolling habits are. You want to feel like you’re not in the matrix? You want to feel like you have a community? You want to SEE COOL STUFF?! Unfortunately, I’m here to tell you that you have to work for it.

The thing is, the algorithm doesn’t know or care if you hate-watched something, or if you watched it because you enjoyed it. It knows you let it play, commented, and spent your time there, so it’s going to give you MORE of that. Comments are the real trap: the reel keeps playing over and over while you fight with strangers you’ll never meet.

Don’t argue with people. Don’t wait around for the reel to get better. Don’t keep scrolling through the carousel if slide 1 made you think “this person is an idiot”. 🙅‍♀️

DO spend extra time on content you DO like. Go out of your way to like, comment, and share posts you found funny, wholesome, or valuable. 👏

I used to leave social media (leave? You can do that?) feeling angry, drained, hopeless, and empty, because I was treating it like a slot machine. I was putting my attention coins in, and hoping for what exactly? The “wasted my time well” jackpot? I don’t even know, and you can’t really expect it to be anything BUT toxic if you’re not thoughtful about it.

Now, I leave social media (leave!) feeling like I learned something, made some new friends, and shared my perspective with the world.

It’ll pay off. But you can’t just give your attention away hoping for a big payoff. You’re a curator, not a gambler. Now act like it. ❤️
