🚶‍♀️ Make Your Move Lockeport — Small Moves, Big Benefits! 💙

What is Make Your Move Lockeport all about? It’s about recognizing that simple movement throughout the day can have a big impact on our health, well-being, and quality of life.

Developed through Nova Scotia’s Department of Communities, Culture, Heritage and Tourism and overseen by Communities on the Move, the Make Your Move initiative selected four communities across the province to champion everyday movement and encourage people of all ages and abilities to get active in ways that work for them.
Here in Lockeport, we’re turning that vision into action! 💙

Through Make Your Move funding, we’ve supported a variety of projects and activities, including:

🚶 Upgrades to the Brighton Road walking path
🏀 The new multipurpose play pad at Lockeport Elementary School
🌊 Interpretive walking signs that encourage exploration of our community
🌱 Public raised garden beds
💪 Adult fitness and play equipment at Seacaps Park
⛸️ Free sponsored skating at Shelburne County Arena to keep us moving through the winter
🏖️ The Family Beach Bash, bringing our community together through fun and activity
♿ Mobi beach mats and a Mobi beach chair, in partnership with the Town’s accessibility grant, helping more people enjoy our beautiful beach.

These projects are about more than equipment and events. They’re about creating opportunities to move, connect with others, enjoy the outdoors, and make healthy choices part of everyday life.

You don’t have to run a marathon to make a difference to your health. A walk, a skate, some gardening, or a little play can all count!

These sponsored skates are open to everyone, free of charge, offering a fun way for families, friends, and individuals of all ages to get active and enjoy some winter activities.

Make Your Move Lockeport is proud to have funded five raised garden beds throughout our community!

Lighthouse Stage
Lockeport Medical Centre
Lockeport Library
Beach Street Kitchen

These garden beds were established for public use, encouraging community participation, outdoor activity, and connection with nature.

As part of the Make Your Move initiative, we are looking forward to seeing them flourish again next year! 🥕🍅🥬🧅

Make Your Move Lockeport is proud to have contributed $21,000 toward the Seacaps Park Playground Project!

Through this investment, we helped ensure the playground offers opportunities for movement, recreation, and connection for all ages. With the addition of adult fitness equipment, teens and adults can enjoy the park just as much as our youngest community members.

Because staying active, having fun, and connecting with others has no age limit!

💙 Make Your Move Lockeport! Project #3 💙

Make Your Move Lockeport is proud to have contributed $10,000 toward the play pad at Lockeport Elementary School!

This versatile space offers so much more than a place to play! Children enjoy free play during recess/lunch, teachers can use the pad for outdoor gym classes and learning activities, and teens can gather after school for a friendly game of one-on-one basketball or to just shoot some hoops. 🏀

As a multipurpose space, the play pad is a wonderful example of the Make Your Move philosophy in action, while encouraging movement, learning, play, and connection at every opportunity.

🚶‍♀️ Make Your Move Lockeport Project #2 ! 🚶‍♂️

Make Your Move Lockeport is proud to have funded $17,385 for the improvements to the Brighton Road walking path. Improvements to this area has helped make walking more accessible and enjoyable for residents and visitors alike.

As you enjoy this improved pathway, please remember to stay alert and be mindful of traffic. Plan your walks to maximize safety.

Where walking on the roadway is necessary, walk facing oncoming traffic and always put safety first.
